Scott County at Lafayette Updates - 6A Semi-Final

Featured Replies

The Rematch

This game is The Rematch and is the only game worthy of being called The Rematch on tonight's slate of games involving another noteworthy rematch in the other 6A Semifinal between Trinity and St. Xavier. That's right. This particular rematch between Scott County and Lafayette is the premier rematch in the 6A Semifinals and not one of the most historic rivals in KY High School Football history.

On Friday September 16th Scott County and Lafayette attempted to play a regular season match up but the game was delayed by lightning and at approximately 10:15 pm with Scott County leading Lafayette 25-20 with 11:04 left in the third quarter the game was called much to the dismay of the entire state of Kentucky who was following this game. The game was being played at the Georgetown College facilities and because the facilities couldn't be used on Saturday the officials of Scott County called the game and Scott County claimed a 25-20 victory. Lafayette offered to host the game at Lafayette in order to finish the game but Scott County's JV and Freshman teams were traveling to Elder(OH) for games on that Saturday and refused the offer of Lafayette to complete the game at Lafayette. Now, the KHSAA rules state that if teams can't agree on a resumption date and time, the game is to begin at the original start time the following day. If a team can't play that following day and is unable to agree on the resumption date, that team must forfeit the game. Because of this rule Lafayette was claiming a 2-0 victory and later that night after the game Lafayette head coach Eric Shaw sent a text to his team letting them know that they had won the game 2-0 as a result of a forfeit. Meanwhile Scott County head coach Jim McKee was still claiming that Scott County won 25-20 because of the play on the field. On September 20th Lafayette was awarded a 1-0 victory from a game that was called off on September 16th

Fast forward to today November 25th as football fans across the state will definitely get an ending to a game that should have had an ending in September. There will not be a forfeit this time and the winner of this game between Lexington area schools will take on the winner from the Louisville schools at Western Kentucky University in the 6A State Finals.

Scott County

Scott County enters this game with a record of 11-2 with losses to Elder(OH) and Lafayette. Scott COunty features a balanced rushing attack that has four players with over 500 rushing yards for the year and two of those with over 750 yards rushing.

Brice Fryman has 864 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns.

Kendrick Hamilton has 798 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Jacob Burton has 572 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Caleb Demus has 540 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Quarterback Josh Davis has 1069 yards passing, 12 passing touchdowns, 5 rushing touchdowns and 1 interception.

Glenn Covington is the team's leading receiver with 576 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Brice Fryman has 169 receiving yards and 4 touchdown receptions.

Defensively Scott County's Cooper Robb has 11 interceptions and 3 interception return touchdowns on the season. As a team Scott County has a total of 20 interceptions and a defense that gave up around 18 points a game to opposing offenses.

Lafayette

Lafayette is led by the dynamic Mr. Football candidate, quarterback Walker Wood. The UK commit has led Lafayette to a 12-1 record with their only loss coming from the hands of Trinity in a 45-7 loss.

Walker Wood has 2655 yards passing with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Wood is second on the team in rushing with 1183 yards rushing and first on the team with 26 rushing touchdowns.

Cameron Morgan is the team's leading rusher with 1368 yards rushing and 12 rushing touchdowns.

Quinton Brown is the team's leading receiver with 931 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns.

Matthew Guilfoil has 548 yards and 5 touchdowns.

TeAndre Newcomb has 403 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Dekwan Edwards has 296 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Defensively Lafayette doesn't appear to have the dynamic ball hawk that Scott County has in Cooper Robb but as a team they have a total of 18 interceptions with Jordan Thomas and Kuantaze Cooper are both tied for the team lead with 5 interceptions apiece.

Lafayette has surrendered around 22 points a game on the season.

What to expect tonight:

I could go a lot of ways with this right now. Both of these teams are top notch teams and I understand that is an obvious statement as we are discussing the 6A Semifinals. Both teams have coaches who have been in this situation before. Both teams have talented playmakers at various positions on the field. Both teams remember not only the game from the regular season in which Scott County was ahead 25-20 when it was called off but last year's game in which Lafayette won 36-30 to advance to the 6A Semifinals. Cross bracketing has made this game the 6A Semifinal game this year as opposed to it being the Region Championship game last year. I chose Scott County to win this game in the King of the Carpet contest but I honestly would not be surprised to see Walker Wood lead Lafayette back to WKU for the 6A State Finals. Walker Wood could very well end the Mr. Football voting if he can manage to do that. One thing is for sure is that I expect this game to be one of the most exciting games played tonight.

The Rematch kicks off at 7:30 pm EST at Lafayette High School.
