My son has played for Highlands football 9 years. Yes I do not know the ends and out's of football and never have claimed to, However we as parent's rather they want to admit it on a public forum or not would agree this is a huge problem. Seems like an odd conversation to be having amongst players from different teams. How exactly did this come up? Regardless, it's a darn shame but glad they're having a good year.

Because these boy's wasn't just your normal boy's. They talked to our boy's. They was very open and polite.

Let me ask you this. Has everyone of the competitive teams at the top gotten better or did their enrollment grow substantially? Is it because they have just done that much more to improve their program headbto toe and have hired the right staff, or is it because they have had more athletes to choose from now? So I ask, is it really getting better or are there just a ton more atheletes? Because at one of the school with success, that staff has been there a long time and the success grew as the population grew. Can be said about others as well.

 

See here is my problem with this. For so many years when people said things about you all having top tuition players and great players from other areas deciding to go to Highlands. You all said it wasn't that, it was the coaching and out working others for your domination. You all never wanted to admit it was the extreme talent you all had wanting to go to Highlands that played a big part. You all always said to other fans to get like us you need to coach better and work harder.

 

Now that you all basically closed enrollment and seen the overall talent go down, it's not the coaching and out working teams, the reason is growth and better players for other teams? So your saying now what you all said for years was wrong, and it is about having the players?

 

You seemed to use SK coaches as an example. I believe they went winless one year early on during his tenure. Was he just a bad Coach, or simply didn't have the players? Then showed how good the coaching was once the talent went up. It seems to me many programs also probably had good coaching and work hard but didn't have the luxury of having the talent Highlands had. However you all always told others Coach them better, work harder to get to where you all at.

 

I don't disagree that growth has helped certain areas. It's just funny hearing you all make that excuse about why other programs have caught up. When you all never seemed to want to admit a big reason for your dominance was just having better talent then the rest of nky. It wasn't only coaching better and working harder that made you all dominant. You all now are dealing with what most teams dealt with during your dominant run. I do believe you all still have very good coaches, and work very hard still. However it's hard for that to show anymore now that other programs have closed and even surpassed that talent gap currently. Welcome to the rest of nky now, that you all use to just say Coach better, and work harder to. Hopefully now you all see how much of a put down it was to say that to other programs. When you were the ones who had the most talent to work with all those years, and now you flip that and saying growth and talent is why others have caught up and not coaching. So even now you put down others and say it's the growth and not the coaching. However when you all dominated it was the coaching and out working others and not just better talent.

Really? leaving the 9 years alone? Not sure what that means but ok. And playing favorites? You must know the complaints because you are naming some of the problems most parent's have said . Nothing that has been done makes sense to me. I know a lot of parent's who are on here now and I myself have heard them say the same thing I am saying. They just aren't going to admit it on here and that is fine. I will be the bad guy I do not care. Nothing will change until the staff changes. If that makes me the bad person I'm sorry I'm really not a bad person but enough is enough on beating around the bush.

Why would you take a kid out once he made a tackle just to put in another one who the whole team has to run behind them just to try and fix what the kid they replaced just missed?

I can't argue with that, if kids were getting pulled out of the game for no reason and they were performing well then that does seem suspicious.

Look, first we have seen this during open enrollment or not! Example, the early to mid 80's were one of biggest times when all this transferring to HHS started there were a ton of athletes coming every year. But the mid 80's was also a couple year stint when we struggled. They had all kinds of transfers on those teams.

 

By contrast, I can show you plenty of HHS teams that won state without any Impact transfers...some role players, but not the stars.

 

It's also been stated that on average, the transfers represent about 5% of each team. That includes soph thru senior. So that means that because sophomores rarely play, some of the transfers aren't even contributing in a given year. HHS averages 85-100 kids each year. So in reality, your transfers avg about 4-5 a on each team.

 

Let me give you another stat. These last two years have players that have come from other communities! So to say they aren't coming is not true? And they aren't winning. So does the logic only apply when they are winning?

 

And HHS does have open enrollment still. It went away for about 2-3 years and it's back. See the girls bball thread! LOL! Also, see Brent Angel.

 

And long time posters have been saying for almost 3 years now that we had a few classes that were lacking elite athletes and depth. When you have a couple classes like that in a row, it has an impact. Especially at a school half the size of a Ryle or SK. It happens. Thank goodness it doesn't happen too often. But when it happens (as we predicted), you can have teams that struggle and it takes time to recover. It's not about transfers. There were some of them on these two teams!

 

So my point is, people create their own perceptions of what has been the reason for their success over the years. People remember the big names and the high impact players over the last 30 years and apply that logic across the program. But the facts are different. Did we have some of those impact players carry us sometimes...probably. But we also had transfers that never saw the field or because a role player late in their career. But in reality over a 30 year period, those instances of transfers carrying the program were few and far between. But that's what people remember. So they label HHS' success as due to transfers. It's just not reality. It comes from the inside, not the outside. But outsiders don't want to believe it really is the inside kids that carry the program.

 

As far as the other areas, growth it a huge reason for the success. It's pretty easy to see that. And it's okay. But when people ask why I know HHS will be back and people want to normalize them, that's my argument. We've been here before as a program. And we've lived through growth of other areas. We've pretty much been landlocked since day one. But HHS continues to seem to come back and get on top and that's why I know they will again. Long time NKY people have seen it and know exactly what I'm talking about. There is more of a chance that HHS returns to the up years than stays normal. Again, we've seen ALL of this before. And as the population continues to grow, they will split the schools and you'll see what happened to Boone Co happen to some of the current schools. Boone hasn't been able to recover from being land locked...even with their tradition. HHS and Beechwood have done it time after time. So you tell me why they are able to...especially at small schools. It's not because of transfers.
