It was pretty clear Matney thought it was a First Down. He didn't have a timeout so he tried the pass thinking worst case would stop the clock instead of riding his 6'2 250 Fullback.

 

Once again belfry has to be breathin a sigh of relief right now. That Defense has been out there nearly the entire Half it seems and were noticably tired. The Pirate Offense has to start putting some First Downs together to help them out.

PA man called it a first down. I can see the confusion. It was a 5-yard incidental face mask. Replay fourth. Refs should have clarified confusion before play. No way Matney calls that play on 4th and inches.

Also worth noting the strip by taveon Hunter on Jackson inside the 5... that was a huge play that also kept the score tied.

 

If anyone had any doubts about these teams holding punches or keeping it vanilla you can put those to rest. These cats are killing each other.

I felt like Belfry was way too predictable on 3rd Down relying heavily on the option. JC, OTOH, I feel has been a bit too cute on 3rd Down as they have thrown several wrinkles and some most haven't panned out.
