The game of the week in Class 1A did not disappoint, a one score overtime victory for #1 Paintsville. Where does Raceland belong now? Is Russellville really the number two team? Where does Beechwood belong in the top teams? Who do you think is too high? Who do you think is too low? What teams will prove where they belong this week? What team are just outside of the Top 10?

The number two through four slots may get shook up this Friday. I don't think any of those three drop out of the top four but the order certainly could change based on how they each play against tough opponents Friday night.

Still think Wburg should be above KCD and Louisville Holy Cross, otherwise I agree.

The thing that hurts Williamsburg is they have no good wins. If they had beaten Leslie County, they could make a stronger case to be rated higher but they couldn't even get a win there. Their best win is Frankfort by one point and both KCD and Holy Cross won by much wider margins over Frankfort. I don't think Williamsburg lasts past round 2 of the playoffs, where they will have to beat Hazard.

The standout game for Williamsburg is how tough they played Lexington Christian in the first game of the year. They were very much in the game throughout. The close game with Frankfort and the loss to Paintsville don't seem in line with how well Wberg played against LCA. Would love to know what happened in those two games, like missing key players or something out of the ordinary which figured into the final scores.

I do believe the other thing to consider may be that LCA has just improved a good deal since Game 1 to now as well.

 

I think that Paintsville game is more accurate of this WBurg team's pecking order. If WBurg and LCa played again right now I would expect the score to more closely resemble the way Paintsville beat them rather than the Game 1 squeeker.

I guess you realize in that game Williamsburg got inside the 5, 3 times to come away with a combined 3 points, which isn't good, but also isn't likely to happen a second time, and that their quarterback was out for a few series in the second quarter.

Hazard will have to win on the road...Williamsburg won the last two but those years they where state runners up. But I think Williamsburg will play tough but hazard will prevail late and push the lead out and win 36-15.

Hazard did handle Pineville easier, but rivalry game with district title potentially on the line I think adds a difference there. Williamsburg is hitting their grove, by no means do I think they are world beater but I think they are there with Hazard. They've won the last 4 games by an average of over 20 points, offense is starting to click more.

I saw Williamsburg against Harlan and you could tell their offense was starting to progress. The Hazard coaches saw it too - most of their staff was at that game. :lol2: It will certainly benefit Williamsburg being the home team, but I do think Hazard is slightly better. Assuming all goes as planned in the first round, that should be one of the premier Round 2 games.

I don't disagree they may be slightly better, but that isn't 21 points better. Their record is missing a premier win same as Williamsburg, Somerset and Pikeville are best two teams they've played and they lost both games.

Hazard is not the same team as when they played Somerset earlier in the year. They have the Austin Combs kid eligible and one of the previous starting tackles is back from a knee injury and the bulldogs passing game has improved and took quite a bit of the load of the runningback Cory Smith.

 

Williamsburgs passing attack will give hazard problems but there defensive line will pressure the QB most of the night. Two excellent receivers hazard will have to cover all game in Ponder and Hawn. Darrell white is another receiver as well. Not sure if Williamsburg will run the ball much but I don't expect it.
