Mercer vs. Garrard County

Featured Replies

Yeah I know what you mean about teams their own size. It will be a wake up call! They will have to say hello to the big Lexington and Louisville schools!

Actually, they(MERCER) wont have to say "hello to the big Lexington and Louisville schools." Because most of those "Big schools" are going to be in 6A, Mercer will be in 5A.

To be exact, Mercer wouldnt have to worry about playing a Lexington school (Bryan Station) until the semi-state rounds. The only "Big" L'ville schools in 5A are Doss, Iroquios and Waggener..and they'll be in the West.

In saying this though, theres some awful good teams by the names of South Laurel, Lincoln Co., Southwestern, Highlands, CovCath, Ashland , etc. in Mercer's end of the state. I think we've all heard of them!!haha It's going to be lots of fun for years to come, because that is GREAT company!!! At the sametime, that's a long, long, long, long, long way away to even be thinking about that..given Mercer is only in the 3rd week of THIS season.

They sure have weakened their schedule. Thats never a good sign.

Yes and no. Remember, five of those games are required district games (Casey, Jackson, Somerset, Taylor and Wayne). The Estill County game is a bowl game in Stanford and I'm not sure who the opponent is for the following season. Frankfort is the return game of a scheduled game this season, just because Garrard wants the home-end of the contract. And then Lincoln County is probably the biggest rival for Garrard and a game that will hopefully always be on the schedule.

The only "weaker" opponents are Bethlehem and Pendleton County. With the struggles Garrard has had last year and this year, plus with a relatively young returning squad next year, this is probably a good move.

Trust me. Those bigger schools had better be ready as well.
