October 7, 201610 yr You need a better argument against basketball practicing 2 weeks at the end of August...considering football practice starts the first week of August. So the NCAA does not care about football players practicing in August, but there would suddenly be some possible legal ramifications if basketball did it? Zero reason they can't practice in August, if football can. Are you just against it GT, if so that's cool. I would be interested why you are against it, if you are. August is actually a gray area the NCAA loves. I'm sure that's why Cal pointed to that specific spot on the calendar with his comments. Football does camp at that point in large part because that is the window where summer school ends and the start of the fall semester begins. What Cal is proposing is an extension of summer workouts, and allowing every team to have the practice exemption allowed for the once every four years foreign trip. I'd be in favor of it if it was as simple as saying teams can go full blast for the 20 allowable hours for the 2-3 weeks between the end of summer school and the start of fall semester. It would eliminate the window where most every kid goes home for a week or two to see their family, but they are collateral damage in this anyway, so whatever...
October 11, 20169 yr The ruse has always been that student athletes were free to work side jobs in the summer to make some extra money. Make summer mandatory, and that built in defense goes away. Would be a potential disaster in future litigation... I didn't think D1 athletes were allowed to have summer jobs? Or is it the wage per hour can't be out of whack for a summer job?
