Why FS at #1?

 

I'm the last guy in the world to cheer for Johnson Central, but that's the clear #1 in the state.

I have said it numerous times, I had Franklin Simpson ranked higher in my preseason based on what they had coming back. They havn't done anything wrong to take them down. JMO just like all those that vote in various poles.

I feel that the top two teams from the west are Franklin Simpson vs South Warren and the two teams from the east will be Johnson Central vs Rockcastle. Both matchups will be stellar as your two west teams already played once and matched up well with an exciting game and I feel that the east side are two mirror image teams that should match up well and make for an exciting game to go play in the state game.

 

I'm actually surprised Rock didn't get any more respect in the top ten rankings and at least find themselves at the number 3 spot; but then again they have not receive much respect in rankings all year. Wayne county just last week sit at 5-1 and #2 below Johnson Central with no real merit as they loss their first game of the season and never played anyone else the rest of the way that was ranked in the top 10 of their classes yet was picked by nearly everyone to beat rock. Then now that rock beat "The Man" they move up 2 spots to #5. Even tho we have played now 4 teams that are ranked in the top 10 for their classes. So basically what this means is 5-1 rock is at best 3 spots lower than a 5-1 Wayne county. Good observation none the less 5 will do for now..

I am starting to look and feel that we might have had wayne a little high and rock a little low. Head to head sounded like it came down to home field advantage.

I think you are right that East side will be Rock/Wayne rematch at Rock vs JC at JC.

JC will not lose at home.

West side...well, that will be a war after the first round. I think FS will face S. Warren at home but Hopkinsville will be sky high vs SW and could pull what I would consider an upset. John Hardin will win district and probably first round game but will face some pretty good completion the next 2 rounds with the regional finals being on the road this year. Region 1 must make the long trip north and with that, anything can happen.

So with all that blow, the East is JC's to loose and the west, Franklin Simpson will have 3 hard weeks in a row to make it WKU and for S. Warren, they would have to go to Hop town, Franklin and then somewhere up north. That is some games to play.

The Wayne/Rock game wasn't really any type of home field advantage for rock. Wasn't a whole lot of penalties called on either team. Both teams only had one turnover each so that wasn't the factor.. really if you want to say home field then there was a fumble that occurred that to me appeared to be evident and clear and according to everyone around me and Rock recovered and this was late in the 4th at which point the game was tied and would have been rock ball as they came up with it but the refs decided for what ever reason that it wasn't a fumble and it was Wayne county ball. None the less that didn't change the out come just prolonged it an extra quarter. This game wasn't decided by refs or home field.. this game would have been a classic regardless where it was played and was just a great game to watch from two very even and identical teams.

A lot of these rankings early on are where teams ended the season last year and what they have returning thus the love for Wayne and South Warren. I don't think I would sleep on either, but at this stage of the season there are better teams on each side of the state.

These seem pretty accurate but I agree with Hellcats that past years seem to affect the rankings. On this list this year I have only seen John Hardin, Hopkinsville, Franklin Simpson and South Warren. Of those four I think Franklin Simpson is the best followed by Hopkinsville and a tie between John Hardin/S. Warren. Hopkinsville can be dangerous but their district is awful and that hurts moving on because they aren't battle tested. Lost only close contest of the year so far.

 

Looking at records of the rest and who they have played, it appears Spencer Co. and Rockcastle Co. are also solid football teams.

 

I think the favorite still remains Johnson Central at the end of the day.
