September 1, 201610 yr We're getting a steady downpour again today with some heavy rain and wind gusts. I've seen much worse. I feel for those north of us. USF closed all of it's campuses for today. FSU cancelled afternoon classes. All of the affected public school systems are closed.

September 1, 201610 yr Author Almost the entire state of Florida is in an Slight Risk Area for strong to severe thunderstorms. Short lived tornadoes are a possibility along with damaging winds, hail and torrential downpours.
September 3, 201610 yr The lights are out in Tallahassee. My niece is heading home, at least for the weekend. She was told power would be restored to FSU by Sunday. It would be Tuesday for the remainder of the communities around the university. As most students at Florida State do, she lives adjacent to the campus.
September 3, 201610 yr I have a vacation scheduled for Sept. 14 (leave home that night) thru Sept. 18 (drive home all day back since I work the 19). Was looking at the PCB-FLA area, but not sure what will be left after this. Don't want to go if it is a mess or if the water is cooler/murkier/seaweed-infested. Should I try somewhere on the Atlantic? Stick with the smokies? We (wife and I) were supposed to go to the beach in July (almost all expenses paid by the inlaws) but my wife got sick and didn't work the entire month. Now she's healthy ... and she wants a beach if possible (and without flying).
