1. Trinity – With another win over a Tennessee power, Trinity retains its place at the top. The season does not get much easier for the Rocks, their next three opponents are all ranked teams: at Lafayette (ranked in the Lexington Power Rankings), Male #2 and at PRP #8

2. Male – While Ballard has not been ranked this season, they were in the honorable mention section and some could argue that they should have been ranked so this will go down as a quality win for the Bulldogs and solidify their #2 ranking.

3. St. Xavier – Falling behind 28 to 0 and then roaring back (get it, Tigers, roar? Ah nevermind) with 42 unanswered points can make one scratch their head what to take from the game. One thing that can be taken though is that Wolford’s boys are well conditioned, don’t panic, they stay focused and regroup and slam the accelerator down. Next week, X goes down to Bowling Green to face the Purples. They CANNOT fall behind by multiple touch downs on Bowling Green, BG is to strong of a team to play that type of catch up on.

4. Dupont Manual – Congrats to the Crimsons with back to back victories over ranked opponents (Fern Creek last Friday and Central the week before). Does this close the gap between St. X and Manual? Too early to tell but looking forward to Manual games in two weeks against Ballard and St. X further down the road. Next week will most likely be one of those games were the starters are on the sidelines in the second half cheering on the second string/JV against Seneca.

5. St. Francis DeSales – If you want to keep moving up in the Power Rankings, then do like DeSales and just keep winning. With the Colts nice shutout victory (17-0) over Butler they rise up to round out the top 5. DeSales faces a tougher challenge next week as they go visit the Ballard Bruins which will be the Featured Game of the Week.

6. Central Hardin – Central Hardin took care of traditionally strong Paducah Tilghman therefore earns the number six spot. Next week should be an easy victory before having to face South Warren, John Hardin, Bowling Green, Collins, Meade County and North Hardin all in a row in a stretch of games that will really demonstrate how good Central Hardin really is.

7. Christian Academy – LCA regrouped after its loss to Simon Kenton with a fine performance against fellow East End Jefferson County foe, Eastern High School. Next week will be a tougher opponent in Central.

8. Pleasure Ridge Park – PRP had an outstanding 46 – 6 victory over a quality opponent in Meade County. Next week against Doss should be an easy victory but will the winning continue after that? Sept 9 starts a land mine string of games in: John Hardin, Trinity, St. X, Male, Butler, Manual and Central all in a row. Not to sound pessimistic but winning four of those seven games would be a great achievement for the Panthers and honestly, most teams in Kentucky.

9. Fern Creek – Last week’s feature game was Fern Creek versus Manual with Manual taking the win. The loss will drop Fern Creek but will not drop them out of the rankings due to Manual being such a quality opponent. Next week is Moore giving Fern Creek a chance to regroup before meeting stronger Butler and ranked DeSales in the following weeks.

10. North Hardin – Welcome to the Power Rankings North Hardin, justifiably earned with victories over Boyle County and John Hardin. Many tend to look at North as John Hardin’s little brother but little brother showed he may not be so little with a 25-10 win over John Hardin. North will be tested during the rest of the season with E-town, South Warren, DeSales, Meade County, Central Hardin and Owenboro Catholic.

Honorable Mention – these are the teams that just missed the Top Ten and are positioned to step up when those ranked stumble and fall out of the rankings

South Oldham – South Oldham keeps winning but against opponents which are difficult to assess how good South really is. Next week’s opponent is not much better in North Oldham so continued observation is needed.

Central – Some will argue back to back losses should drop you not only out of the rankings but all out of Honorable Mention contention. Because the losses were close losses to quality teams, the Yellow Jackets get another chance as they visit Christian Academy next week.

Ballard – Yeah, Ballard loss, gripe all you want but it was to Male, the number two team in the Louisville area and top five in the state. Next week the Bruins play DeSales in the Featured Game of the Week and will prove if they still belong in the Honorable Mentioned area and possibly ranked. We shall see.

John Hardin – John Hardin was purposely put at the bottom of the Honorable Mention section. A loss to Bowling Green will not knock you out of Honorable Mention territory but a loss to North Hardin makes you hang on by a thread. Next week against Warren Central will give John Hardin a chance at redemption and possibly position John Hardin to make a run for the rankings as they face stronger opponents in PRP, Central Hardin and Meade County consecutively.

Team on the Rise – The Manual Crimsons will take the award this week due to winning the Featured Game of the Week and beating ranked teams back to back.

Team on the Decline – I hate to brand Central the team on the decline but the back to back losses and dropping out of the rankings make the Yellow Jackets the best candidate.

Featured Game of the Week – Ballard versus DeSales

Still not sold on N Hardin.

Might be more problems at JH than we think.

S. Oldham should be top 10

Looking at the schedule, is there a shot that South Oldham could go unblemished?

Unless Central blows out CAL, S. Olham is theoretically next in line to be ranked.

I am not sure PRP has an easy win this week.

I'm not sold on them, either...but, you can't take the wins away from them. However, both of the teams they've beaten were/are ranked in the top 6/7 of their respective classes.

I am not sure PRP has an easy win this week.

I've not had a chance to see PRP yet, but I'd say solely based on the re-cap of Doss's game against a tough SOHS team (and knowing some of the future D1 can't-miss athletes they have), I'd have to agree that Doss will give PRP a very good game.

...that notwithstanding, how great a job again did Bert do with those write-ups? Takes a good amount of research and time to write and re-write to get those the way they come out I'm sure.

BGP has always been a fun 'fan-site.' But the last couple of years it's produced some good quality writing.

Maybe I am not giving Does enough credit. I just get the same feeling with them as I did Waggener with all the early love Waggener was getting and didn't live up to. If Doss does beat PRP, that would almost certainly drop PRP and South Oldham would enter the polls.

We will find out quickly because NH does not have an easy schedule, it will show what they are made of.

I think 3 out of their next 4 are easy wins and all at home. That one game might as well be marked down and an L....I would pick that game an L for 90% of the state of ky.

BTW, really appreciate you doing this thread...gives us some locals a place to make some comments.

Welcome, it is time consuming but enjoyable.

I need you Hardin County guys for info on the Hardin school since Louisville news doesn't provide much coverage, I assume they let Etown media cover it?
