August 23, 201610 yr Rangers are in town starting tonight for a quick two game series. Tonight: Holland (5-5) v Straily (9-6)
August 24, 201610 yr Author Votto thrown out at the plate by 15 feet to end the 4th. Joey basically stopped heading into third base before going home. Upon further review though, it was terrible coaching by Billy Hatcher. A very late wave and the wave was not very noticeable. On a ball in RF, the runner is relying solely on the third base coach and Hatcher just messed that up terribly.
August 24, 201610 yr Author Is hatcher coaching third now? Yes. Freddie Benavides is in the first base box.
August 24, 201610 yr Author Votto with a two strike, two out single in the 6th to score Holt. 1-0 Reds.
August 24, 201610 yr Author Iglesias let's the first two get on in the 7th. Then Andrus hits a sharp ground ball to Suarez at third. Suarez steps on third and rushes the throw to second, BP can't handle it in the dirt and they only get one out. A wild pitch moves the runners to second and third. Iglesias then beared down and got two strikeouts to end it.
August 24, 201610 yr Author Tucker Barnhart with a two out double to score Suarez from first. 2-0 Reds heading to the 8th.
August 24, 201610 yr Not sure who saw that at bat by Votto in bottom of 8th but what a classic. Runners on 1st/3rd, one out. 1st pitch a questionable strike, 2nd pitch I didn't see but apparently a called strike he didn't like. 0-2 upstairs he fouls off at last sec. Next pitch breaking ball late movement he checks swing. Then a fly ball to left to send in3rd run. He's weird but he's darn good
August 24, 201610 yr Author It was a very good AB by Votto. I don't get the Rangers constantly challenging him with a RISP and first base open. They did it twice tonight and he got an RBI both times. Cingrani makes it interesting but the Reds win 3-0.
August 24, 201610 yr Peraza has been great since returning to the big leagues last week, plus he's been playing SS. The Reds are nursing Cozart and have refused to put him on the DL. I wish they would go ahead and put him on the shelf. Let's see what Jose can do.
August 24, 201610 yr The Reds have 7 games left in August. Joey Votto is hitting .438 for the month. He's attempting to be the 1st Reds player since 1913 (I believe that's the year) to hit over .400 in consecutive months. He'd be the 1st major leaguer since 2010 (Josh Hamilton) and first NL player since 2008 (Chipper) to do so. @jluckhaupt Joey Votto is trying to become the 1st #Reds player since at least 1913 to bat .400+ in consecutive calendar months. @jluckhaupt 23h23 hours ago Votto is trying to become the 1st in MLB since Josh Hamilton in 2010 to bat .400+ in consecutive months. 1st NLer since Chipper Jones in '08
August 24, 201610 yr I know the narrative on this team earlier in the season was that they just don't care and were mailing it in. People still feel that way?
August 24, 201610 yr I know the narrative on this team earlier in the season was that they just don't care and were mailing it in. People still feel that way? I don't think it's a coincidence that they started performing better once the likes of Disco, Homer, Iglesias, and Lorenzen all got healthy. Completely changed the makeup of the team. Instead of Ohlendorf and Wood in the pressure situations we get Lorenzen and Iglesias. Makes a big difference.
August 24, 201610 yr I don't recall ever seeing a player patrol CF like Billy does. Maybe Griffey Jr. but even he didn't have the pure athletic ability to make plays like Billy does. He's phenomenal.
August 24, 201610 yr I know the narrative on this team earlier in the season was that they just don't care and were mailing it in. People still feel that way? I never felt that way, at least with the position players. But the bullpen flat out sucked at the beginning of the year. Now, whether or not some of those guys didn't care, I don't know. It could of been mailing it in, inexperience, poor coaching, or just plain ol' bad luck...but, whatever it was, man it was not pretty.
