Owensboro 43 Warren Central 6

Featured Replies

Central had 28 kids dress out. Was told by a friend that MS program is up to 30.

Central's schedule is really brutal. Just surviving this season will be a big accomplishment.

Is it true that WC is going to a JV schedule after this game? So sad.... I guess the rich get richer at any expense.

As for the game, not much to take away from it for OHS. They did what they were supposed to do and kuddos to OHS coach Jay Fallin for getting the backups some quality reps. I would've liked to have seen more production from the backups, but credit goes to WC for getting a second half shutout and actually winning 6-0! I think the improvement of QB Zach Gross is critical for the Devils as is the young defense (9 new starters) growing up in a hurry.

I heard the Jewell kid from WC will be ok, which I hope is true. This situation for WC sucks beyond measure and I for one, would love to see the Dragons get through this dark time and be back in a few years. I just wonder if there is enough people like DragonFire left, that really care about WC. Shame on the BG community for what they've done to that school......

That isn't happening. Injuries are the only thing that could lay them low enough, but if that happens, they won't have enough players to play any schedule, at any level. They're all in on varsity, and that's the only type of schedule they'll be playing.

It is definitely brutal what has happened. Right now Central has to approach everything from a "program" building perspective. That's not just athletics, but the school itself. They have to win the hearts and minds of the students and parents down to the elementary school level. Continuity is key, and something they've helped cripple themselves with. They have to gain continuity at the administration level, teaching level, coaching level, etc. The turnover that Central has had in each of these facets is alarming. It's a key reason why so many parents and players simply took their ball to another school this offseason. It's part of a reason why some never make it to the school in the first place. I'm not saying you constantly hold onto ineffective personnel, but it's high past time they stop firing (or otherwise pushing out) people who haven't had time to prove a thing. Stability helps foster success. Students and athletes NEED stability. Aside from the principal job, many of these facets are solely up to the school. A lot of blame can be laid on the county leadership, but Warren Central absolutely has to own its own shortcomings in decision making. Maybe, now that he's completed his purge, the current principal can really start focusing on building that stability.

Thanks for the response DragonFire. I agree that WC has to first admit and fix its shortcomings, as I think every school needs to do that. However, I think the community as a whole (mostly WCPS) has to take some ownership as well. People watched the building "catch on fire" yet no one called 911 or offered to help. Instead, it seems as though others used it as a chance to gain some athletes. I get it. It's dog eat dog and every man for himself, but the result is this.

If I'm way off base, I apologize. But from an outsider, this is what it looks like.
