Who are the top 10 goalies in NKY???

The obvious choice is the girl from Highlands.

The JR from NDA is also very good.

The obvious choice should be last year's 1st team all region and I believe first team all state, and only a junior the goalie from NCC.

Congrats to her. I follow soccer a bit and the only goalie I ever hear about is the girl from HHS.

What is this girl's name? She was 1st team all-state?

If you are talking girls, April Gibson from New Cath is the best in my mind. In a shootout against HC last year, she flat out put on a clinic. The Highlands keeper is good but her saves to goals ratios wasn't necessarily the best last year. Sure, she has tons of shutouts but with the defense in front of her, she sometimes doesn't even need gloves. I also like the keepers from Conner, HC, Ryle and SK.

Good point, Ranger. Maybe I'm giving the HHS goalie too much credit and not enough to the D in front of her.

The HHS defense is outstanding, but the goalkeeper is a huge part of it. Both Hiance and Gibson are the best goalkeepers in NKY. The edge goes to Hiance not only on the stats that Ranger spoke of(shutouts, saves/goals ratio, goals allowed, goals against ratio) but wins as well. Gibson has 1 win against HHS in 4 attempts. Hiance has 4 wins in 7 attempts against NCC. Both were 1st team all state last season.

Gunner - you can't base who is better off of the outcome of games.

Wins are just one of the many stats I mentioned. The goalkeeper is the most important player on the soccer field. More often than not they individually are the biggest difference between winning and losing. Therefore IMO it is more than relevant. Without a doubt both are very good keepers, I give a slight edge to one based on the stats.

For guys, I'd say last year one stood above the rest, but this year is a different story.

Is the goalie from HHS returning? If so, he is most likely the best if his hands have improved.

Who? Schriever?

Brian Putthoff of Campbell County is the best.

28 saves

4 Shutouts

only 1 goal against

The fault with using wins is that the goalie could actually have no say in the outcome due to outstanding defense. Look at the boxscores sometimes. You'll see the winning goalie with one or two saves. The defense upfront is what wins it in thise situations.

You are right, anything "could" happen, but for a team sport the goalkeeper is more often than not the single biggest difference between winning and losing. Look at any championship team, and you will find a great goalkeeper. Italy 2006 had Buffon, Manchester United 1999 had Schmeichel, Brazil 2002 had Taffarel and Dida. Forwards and goalscorers sell tickets, goalkeepers and defenders win championships. As I stated in my previous post, the wins are just one factor among many.
