June 23, 201610 yr Yeah it's right down town but black bears are starting to have a big population in Kentucky. They will eventually venture into towns and near homes. I like bears though. I wouldn't worry much about it.
June 23, 201610 yr Author The healthy population is a great thing, I'm all for trying to get a healthy number of native animals, in numbers near those that they once had. I guess I would have been in heaven to have grown up in those times
June 23, 201610 yr Have you seen the video of the bear swimming across lake Cumberland near the state dock?
June 23, 201610 yr Only problem is that they start finding food and associate the buildings and people with food sources. They can become almost impossible to scare off and many have to be euthanized.
June 23, 201610 yr Have you seen the video of the bear swimming across lake Cumberland near the state dock? CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Black Bear swimming in Lake Cumberland It was at Burnside Island...there have been numerous sightings in Pulaski County and around Somerset over the past few weeks. One was seen 2 streets away from my house last year. They are getting so common I set up a trail cam watching my garbage cans in case one ventures up this way. Sheriff's Office is getting calls daily reporting Bear sightings from across the county. I heard a few days ago that Fish and Wildlife found a guy that had a wild bear living with him. Guy said he found it as a cub and brought it home. They said it would come when called and sit just like a dog when told to sit. It was sent to a bear rehab facility out of state I was told.
