How are the players picked for this?

 

Quick summary.

 

Every head coach that is a member is sent a notification by the association to get their nominations in for their team and any region player they would like to nominate. They send stats and a brief note as to why they feel the player is worthy. Only coaches in the assiciation can nominate players. There are 129 coaches in the association out of 300 schools in KY.

 

Once those nominations are put together by the association, the nominees are sent out to the association members on a ballot with all the information. Those member coaches then decide all state awards.

 

All players whose coaches are not in the association are at the will of the opposing coaches within their region to nominate them. In some regions, all teams don't even play each other in the regular season. In that case, even if a region has decent representation and an opposing coach would consider adding a player not on his team, they may have not even seen this deserving player play.
