Fern Creek 2016

Featured Replies

What does Fern Creek need to do to improve in 2016? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

Fern Creek had a great season last year going 12 and 2 only losing to Manual and at Bowling Green.

Their defense only gave up 109 points in 14 games or about a touchdown per game. I am not sure of the total of what they lose other than their WKU signee Lamarius Kinslow who will be a great loss. Their offense will have to improve if they want to get past South Oldham again in the playoffs.

The cross districting in 5A changes this year. Are they still playing SO's district this year?

Great Question Suh! I honestly am not sure, but thought that next year the X districting would just change who they would play in the semi-final round. Pete W might know.

Correct. The 5A Louisville district will play the northern Kentucky district. That is considered Region II and the winner will host the western Kentucky 5A winner in the state semifinals.

The Bullitt/Nelson/Oldham schools will play Anderson, Madison Southern, Montgomery, and Woodford. That is considered Region III and the winner will travel to the Region IV champion (southeastern Kentucky).

Fern Creek will have to replace Kinslow, the only true threat at WR last several years and the leading tackler as well. Also 2 good RB in Jamison White 1700 yds and 15 TD, Delquan Wimberly 649 y 10 TD. Both starting OT, one of who was also the kicker / punter. And 3 starters on DL, another good LB Fred Harris, and one of the CB.

Possibly bigger than replacing the players, FC is seeing it's two oldest coaches retire. Def Coordinator Don Hillerich has retired after 7 years at FC and before that 10 years at Manual and 1 at Atherton, Don was also the founder, owner, & head coach of the semi pro Louisville Bulls for their entire 28 yr existence. He will be missed not only as the guy coming up with the def game plan and calling the D, but as the guy that cut grass, painted the game and practice fields, repaired things, and anything else that needed done. The Tiger eye (like LSU) was his baby and he painted it before every game the last 3 years.

Also besides Don FC also loses Offensive Line coach Ed Jackson, Coach Jackson was along time assistant at Providence High in S Indiana, then came down to FC to help when Nichols came to FC. Almost 70, he still related well to HS kids and will be missed.

FC still has a great staff but those two guys will be missed, the average age of the staff will drop dramatically. I may be the oldest staffer (44), although I am not actually a coach.

Great Info Pete W! I still think FC can win their district!

Who do you see as your biggest challenger this year?

Great info GC! With this said, I think South Oldham could potentially make it to Bowling Green. I'm not sure what Pulaski has coming back outside of their star WR from last year.

As long as they are in 5A they have a shot...FC has plenty of players walking the halls for sure.
