HOUSTON (KTRK) --

A Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable was shot multiple times last night in what investigators say was an 'ambush' attack.

Deputy Constable Alden Clopton was shot four times at the 3000 block of Alabama Street near Ennis.

Clopton was in surgery at Memorial Hermann Hospital for nearly six hours and has now been moved to critical care, Constable May Walker says.

Investigators say around 11:20pm, Deputy Clopton and a reserve deputy were wrapping up a traffic stop on Alabama Street when someone opened fire on them. Deputy Clopton was standing beside the reserve deputy's patrol car when several bullets struck.

Read elsewhere that man just walked up and started shooting as Deputy was leaning in window talking to the other officer.

The war on LEO continues. SMH.

I don't know about an actual "War" but unprovoked ambush style attacks do seem to have increased over the last year or so. Police officers have always had a danger of being ambushed when answering calls. These ambushes where officers are just in their car, eating in a restaurant or standing talking to another officer seem to be a new problem.

I know Police Officers that used to park out in visible areas while doing paper work on their computers, that all now have hidden areas they park in to work on reports.
