March 28, 201610 yr It appears that we could be seeing a chance for strong to severe storms this upcoming Thursday. As of now the timing looks to be during the afternoon into the nighttime hours. Here are some of maps showing what I'm watching for. Damaging winds, large hail and a few tornadoes. The following maps show the energy in the atmosphere look to be conducive for the possible development of supercell thunderstorms and tornadoes. The time for these maps is centered around 2pm EDT. The threat looks to go on until around midnight as the storms progress eastward across Kentucky. I will of course post updates as we get closer.

For now you look like you should be ok. The afternoon threat looks to be in parts of WKY and southcentral KY. The evening hours look to be stormy for those in Central/NKY. You can see the start of the second line of storms in this map around 5 pm that I think will be the one to bring the severe weather to our part of the state during the night time hours 8-midnight EDT. 5pm EDT Radar

If that happens we could get some clearing of the clouds and more sunshine in the afternoon that may destabilize the atmosphere more. Also as of now it looks like the second line of possible storms maybe more potent and last longer in the early morning hours of Friday. I'll post a more detailed update this evening because we are still a couple days away from this possible weather event.

March 29, 201610 yr Author Tuesday evening update. It looks like there maybe a couple rounds of rain on Thursday. The first round of rain looks to be around 5 am EDT to the morning rush hour. The round of rain and possible thunderstorms look to be just in SEKY by 5 pm EDT. With this happening there may be some clearing and sunshine. This would help destabilize the atmosphere around Kentucky. The evening into the nighttime hours looks to be when we could see strong to severe storms. My present thinking is from around 6 pm- 2 am EDT. I'm seeing the possibility of supercell thunderstorms that could produce a couple tornadoes. 1-2 of these tornadoes could be strong long track tornadoes. We'll have to see if this trends continues. The main area of concern for me at the present time is along the Ohio River from about Owensboro to NKY. Also along the I-65 corridor down to the Tennessee border for possible tornadoes. This doesn't mean that one could form elsewhere. The main threats for now look to be damaging wind, large hail, cloud to ground lightning and a couple of tornadoes. I will most likely give an update in the morning.

March 30, 201610 yr Author Just a quick update this Wednesday morning. Everything seems to be pointing to a severe weather event for Kentucky Thursday evening into the night time hours. As I have been pointing out the threats look to be damaging winds, large hail, cloud to ground lightning and a few tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded parts of Kentucky west of I-65 to a Slight Risk area for strong to severe storms. The rest of Kentucky is Marginal Risk while EKY has a chance of thunderstorms. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see those area upgraded by tomorrow. I'll update again later this evening. Sooner if the information warrants it. Everyone should be weather aware on Thursday especially in the evening into the overnight hours.
March 30, 201610 yr Author Wednesday afternoon quick update: Just released about 10 minutes ago As I expected this morning. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the levels of their storm probability outlook maps. WKY is now in an enhanced area for strong to severe storms for tomorrow. I'll post a more detailed update this evening. As it looks now if this trend continues I will go into a Severe Weather Alert Mode for Thursday by in the morning.
March 30, 201610 yr Author Wednesday evening update: Right now it seems most of the energy needed for strong to severe storms will stay west of I-75. With the greatest or strongest energy being in WKY and west of I-65. This simply means that the condition look to be conducive for the formation of strong to severe storms. The main threats seem to be damaging winds, hail possibly severe, cloud to ground lightning and maybe a couple of tornadoes. These tornadoes could possibly be strong ones. The time period for the best chance for these storms is from 5 pm to 2 am EDT Thursday. The threat for supercell thunderstorm has lowered some. It looks like the possible storms will be more linear in nature but they can still produce all of the threats mentioned earlier. I may update later tonight but for sure will post an update in the morning. I will more than likely go into a Severe Weather Threat Day mode in the morning. Everyone stay weather aware tomorrow and tomorrow night.
