Holy Cross gets a leadoff hit from Alehia Tucker and a Maddy Hyde walk, but Meyers strikes out the next 7 in a row.

 

NewCath gets 1 in the 2nd as Fr.Jenna Fryer, who bunted aboard, scores on a Wild Pitch. The Indians plate one in the 3rd with 1 out......following an error in left, Maddy Hyde gets an RBI single to center to tie things up.

 

The Breds take the lead for good in their half of the 3rd as 8th grade catcher, Sam Grause walks and advaces to 2nd on a WP, then Alex Burkart sends a two-hop double off the centerfield fence to score Grause. Haley Meyers RBI single to left would score Burkart. The Breds would score 5 more times in the 4th, highlighted by a Burkart RBI single to center.

 

Holy Cross would get an RBI single by Hyde in the 5th for their final run. NewCath would get a one hop double to the left-center fence by Burkart in the 5th, but she is stranded. Jenna Fryer would closeout the scoring in the NewCath 6th, with an RBI double to the right-center gap.

Tickled to death we were able to even get in 6 innings of a JV game in.......considering how nasty it was with the wind and slight drizzle.

It was spitting from the 5th inning to the 6th off the varsity game, and nothing during the JV tilt. Rained for about 10 minutes once everyone left the park and we were cleaning up.

 

The "rain-gods" were kind to us in Newport today. LOL

Yeah,. .......I remember an umpire from another region that "hosed" us one year telling us JV only played 5 innings, game ended in a tie.

JV games in the southern part of the state are 5 innings. In the 12th Region, the varsity game starts first and the JV plays either 5 innings or to whatever the time limit is set at...this is for Monday-Thursday games.

JV plays after varsity here in NKY, we NewCath, and a few others, are willing to play 7 innings of JV every time.......those kids don't get any better playing 3 or 4 innings.

I wholeheartedly agree.

We play 7 innings of JV if day light allows if the games are at our place. That's what we pay the umps for and hope to get in. Almost have to pick up JV games on the side to get them more opportunity to play. I know we're doing a Saturday Jv double header in a couple weeks with Highlands. The more games for them the better

JV games are 5 innings. The good grace of some umpires extends only as a courtesy. Just so we all are on the same page….:thumb:

The only reason they should play less than 7 innings is the run rule or run out of day light. Don't ever remember a girls high school JV basketball game that they only play 3 quarters !!!

Last year when Highlands was at Dixie the ump stopped the game after 5 innings saying KHSAA insurance didn't cover more innings than that.
