Doss 69 Taylor County 58 (Sweet 16 Quarterfinals)

Featured Replies

Doss' coach said they played a 2-3 with the wings pinching in to defend against the drive. That's probably your "4 guys" came from.

Every time Sloan drove, at least three guys surrounded him, and he doesn't like to kick it out when he drives that deep. Paid the price in Doss blocked shots.

This week was my first time seeing Goodin. I think he is at a different level than anyone else in the tournament. I'm not comparing him individually to any other player specifically, his skills are just off the charts.

That said, he seems either complacent or unmotivated at times. I was waiting for him to take this game over at some point, but it never happened. I think he certainly has the ability to do so if he desired. I was left disappointed that he didn't kick it in to high gear in the 4th.

I agree and his defense is lacking. Can't count the times he would let his man go by him and try to backtip.

Stats say Doss' rebounding margin was +7 but it felt a whole lot bigger than that.

That was an issue. Was there ever a whistle in a TC drive? I saw lots of contact but never a whistle.

Yes, he and Sloan both seemed sluggish all night. That combined with the Doss shooting well (if I am remembering correctly at the half Doss was shooting around 60% vs. 30% for TC). And the rebounds. Made for a very long night for the Cards.

He got to the line a handful of times but there were some that could be called. To be fair, Sloan was not shy about seeking out contact on his drives. Seemed like the stripes were a bit more picky about fouls on the perimeter.

That is the MO for both he and Goodin. What got me about the stripes was they called about 6 total fouls on both teams combined in the first half. In the second, they called around 40 total. I didn't notice a 34 foul discrepancy between the first and second halves of play.

Yes he is and I believe will have a excellent college career.

There were more calls in the 2nd half but seemed they called more on the perimeter than in the lane.
