Gotta be a disadvantage having to travel that far before and after games. Hopefully if they win Friday they will stay the night for the championship game.

To put it in perspective, Jenkins is on the Virginia border and Stanton is 45 miles from Lexington.

For those from the Central Kentucky area that haven't had the chance to see Creech play, Powell County is not a long drive from Fayette and surrounding counties. The game is Friday at 8:00.

I saw two google quotes. One said 115 and another said 125. Regardless it's a long way on a school bus.

Very similar to a couple of the NKY teams when they travel to the regional tournament in Montgomery County. Suck it up.:lol2:

How many career points now?

I remember talking to fellow who was the coach at Estill County when they first came into the 14th from the 10th in 2006. He told me they were fortunate enough to make the regional tourney one year at Mason County and someone had done a write-up on each team in a some type of pamphlet and he said all it had on Estill was, "Not much is known about Estill County."

He said they were located so far south in the 10th that the rest of the region wasn't even aware they were a member school. Of course I'm sure he was being satirical. However, they're also a long distance from most 14th schools too, but I suppose they're a little better known, lol.

In the last forty years, Estill has played in the 11th Region (Lexington), 10th Region (Maysville), and 14th Region (Hazard), all without moving.

I was at one of the realignment meetings at the KHSAA building in Lexington before Estill was switched to the 14th. They actually asked to be moved to the 14th. Their AD went to the microphone and said that Estill ' s location on the regional map put them in a predicament where they were always going to be on the outer edge of any region they could potentially be moved to. He used the word "confluence" to describe their location. They are the farthest team south in the 10th, farthest school to the southeast when they were in the 11th, farthest school north if they were in the 13th, and farthest school west (along with Powell) in the 14th. No easy solution for the Engineers in finding a region without having to travel long distances to games.

Very true. I think culturally and demographically, Estill County fits best in the 14th.

I agree. And they can compete much better in the 14th than going up against so many big schools in the 10th. They are the 4th largest enrollment in our region, behind Perry, Letcher, and Powell (who has about 720 students to Estill ' s 700). They've won a couple of baseball regions and 8 out of 10 softball titles.

3 years ago I was on vacation in Hollywood California. Stayed across the street from Hollywood high school saw a few of the girl's b-ball players at fast food place they told me almost every away game they have was like 1/2 mile to 2 miles away. 5 miles was a long trip. lol!!
