Morehead State University will be the host of another exciting 16^th Region Tournament this season. Elliott County are the defending region champs, can they repeat or will someone else be making their way to Rupp?

 

Elliott County vs. Fairview:

Elliott County took both regular season meetings from Fairview, 74-54 and 67-51. Elliott County hit a hard spot their in January where they went 1-6 during a 7 game stretch but since they have won 7 straight and come into the regional tournament at 19-7.

 

Fairview has lost 8 of their last 9 games. Their only win came in a 68-45 fashion over Ashland, a team that defeated them twice during the season, once a brutal beating and the other game went into OT.

 

 

Lewis County vs. Fleming County:

Lewis County took 2/3 from Fleming County during the season, winning 68-55 and 67-54, nearly the same identical scores and losing 54-51 to the Panthers. Lions have won 3 straight and 6 of their last 9 games coming into the regional tournament.

 

Fleming County struggled all season, like they only had 2 wins going into February 9^th’s game with Lewis County (Which they won 54-51), since that date, Fleming County has won 4 of their last 6 games.

 

 

Rowan County vs. West Carter:

Two of the best teams in the 16^th region will meet in the first round of the regional tournament with one advancing and one going home. West Carter took both games against Rowan County this season, 62-49 and 62-61. West Carter is hot right now, having won 11 of their last 13 games that seen a 5 game win streak and a 6 game win streak for the Comets.

 

Rowan County won their district over Menifee and Fleming County and have won 3 straight and have won 8 of their last 11 games. 15 of Rowan County’s 19 wins have came against region opponents but 2 of their 4 losses against region opponents have came against West Carter.

 

 

Boyd County vs. Raceland:

Boyd County come into the region a hot team as well, having won 3 straight. Boyd County started the season and went 4-8 in the month of December, since January 1^st, the Lions have gone 15-4 and that stretch has seen 2 6 game wins streaks and a 3 game win streak.

 

Since January 1^st, Raceland has played 19 games, they have only won 7 of those games, Raceland has went 2-3 in their last 5 games. Rams have yet to play Boyd County this season.

TOP 10 PLAYERS:

1. Bobby Anderson (Boyd County): Averaging 20 points a game, Bobby has put up a high amount of points this season at 587

 

2. Hayden Roe (West Carter): leading scorer for the Comets at 17 points a game. Hayden is also the second leading rebounder for the Comets at 9.4 rebounds per game.

 

3. Ben Jordan (West Carter): Not really known for his shooting/high points, Ben is more a defensive presence, grabbing at least 10 boards a game. In 24 games played, Ben has a total of 256 total rebounds.

 

4. Larry Whelan (Rowan County): Shooting 84% from the charity stripe, 110/131. Larry averages right at 16 points a game for the Vikings.

 

5. Dylan Romine (Fairview): Not even listed in the BGP pre-season top players. Dylan has came along surprising some people, averaging 21 points a game and has scored 504 of Fairview’s 1,500 points.

 

6. Chase Potter (Elliott County): Chase has helped lead his team to a 19-7 season and puts them in the hunt for another region crown.

 

7. Hunter Kenser (Boyd County): The Junior guard is the second leading scorer on the Lions team, averaging 17 points a game. These two guys are the main workhorses that run this Boyd County team.

 

8. Dalton Brown (West Carter): One of 3 weapons that Coach Webb has. Dalton is an underrated player, not even ranked in the preseason top ten, has came a long ways, averaging 13 points a game is West Carter’s second leading scorer.

 

9. Michael Antrobus (Rowan County): Averaging 16 points per game for Rowan County, Michael is actually 2 points (466) behind Rowan County’s leading scorer, Larry Whelan (468), in less games played than Larry.

 

10. Alex Roy (Fairview): In 25 games played, Alex has scored right at 300 points on the season, that’s 12 points a game for the junior forward.

Why is Elliot Co not #1? Won their district, in beating West Carter. Also, they're the defending champs entering this tournament. JMO though, for what it is worth.

West Carter and Rowan County got a horrible draw. Had they been on opposite sides they would be playing in the championship game in my opinion. I look for the winner of this game to win the region.

Valid argument. While the game was at Elliot, they are the defending champ. West, Elliott, Rowan or Boyd are interchangeable.

Don't sleep on Lewis, I think they have the 3rd best backcourt in the tournament with Walker and Parker behind Rowan (Whelan and Antrobus) and Boyd (Anderson and Kenser). They also have wins over Elliott, Rowan, Fleming, Fairview, and Raceland. West and Boyd are the only teams in the tournament that Lewis did not beat at least once.

Have not seen Kenser play, just going by what I see on KHSAA website. Sorry I have not gotten to see all the tournament teams play yet. If he's a forward then Lewis has the second best backcourt in the tournament. :lol:
