Owensboro Area Predictions - Preseason

Featured Replies

Well, I'm out of hibernation and ready to begin another football season! Now, that the long break is over from last December, and football scrimmages are upon us, it's time to start the Owensboro area predictions.

Preseason

APOLLO -- Regular Season Prediction (6-4)

Coach Carlberg will have his team ready to play and they will have another year of experience under his system to aide in their success. Apollo struggled a little in the early part of last season and then gained some momentum towards the end (which I attribute to their grasp of Carlberg's system). I think that Apollo is still a year away from taking control of the Owensboro area. I see them beating DC without any trouble this year; however, Catholic and Owensboro will be tough games for them. They should finish 2 or 3 in their district and, like last year, will be a stronger towards the end of the season. Ben Duvall is the anchor of this team and is as solid as they come -- he will be the play maker. Good luck Eagles!

Daviess Co. -- Regular Season Prediction (3-7)

Unfortunately, Daviess Co. is going to have a tough year. New Coach Marcus Kimbrell will have his hands full in trying to squeeze 3 wins out of this team. Coach Kimbrell is starting at the bottom and will have an enormous re-building task over the next 2-3 years. This team, as with last year's team, does not have any standout players that can help dominate a football game. As the season progresses, I will be interested to see who steps to the forefront on this team. Coach Kimbrell is a good coach and will get as much out of his players as possible; however, this year will rocky at best. DC will not win the City County Championship this year. Good luck Panthers!

Owensboro -- Regular Season Prediction (7-3)

This could be the best all-around team that Coach Prince has had since his arrival a few years ago. The Red Devils don't have a standout name like Wimsatt, however, they DO have a solid 22 on each side of the ball. I look for Nick Hall, Jamison Johnson, Austin Moss and Josh Hayden to grab some headlines this season. Coach Prince seems to have his rebuilding phase behind him and I believe that he has his players doing things his way now. The Red Devils will lose to Male and Mater Dei; however, closer to home, they will do some damage. OHS might be bringing home the City-County trophy this year -- it will be decided on 8/25. The Red Devils should make a good run in the playoffs. Good Luck Red Devils!

Owensboro Catholic -- Regular Season Prediction (9-1)

Catholic will be in the running for another good season this year. Coach Edge has figured out how to sustain success -- this year will be no different. The only position that is unknown is the QB position. The last 2 years Catholic has had the advantage of playing 5 extra games, which has given the younger athletes 1 extra season of experience. The "extra season" is a BIG advantage for their program. Catholic should run through their district with ease; however, they are in for dog fights against South Spencer (IN) and Owensboro. They should be in contention for the CityCounty trophy and, as said earlier, it will be decided on 8/25. I see Catholic going deep into the playoffs again this year. Good luck ACES!

Apollo: 6-4

DC: 3-7

Will be long road to recovery....

Owensboro: 8-2

Pressure is on for these Devils....

Catholic: 8-2

I see another solid season for the Aces. I witnessed part of the scrimmage last night at Ohio Co. and the offense was pretty much in sync in 2nd qtr, and looked good, but I missed the 1st. Walker will get better every game. Wr's will also be solid once again. Defense should be solid in time. Should be an interesting year......:thumb:

Apollo I have talked to some people around this program and they feel that they are as good as O Cath and Owensboro. I am not sure about that but they do have a solid group of players and they will be tough to beat. As was pointed out Ben Duvall is solid and he might be the best player in the city by season's end.6-4, maybe 7-3

Daviess County I don't see any way around another bad season for the panthers. They will struggle early trying to make up fpr lost time because of the extremely long time the DC admins waited before hiring Krimble. I do expect them to be better in a year or two but not now.2-8, maybe 3-7

Owensboro This is Prince's team, the one he was waiting for when he first got hired. I think it would be an extreme disappointment if this team is not in the top two in their region, let alone winning the city-county championship. At the high school level speed is something everyone wants more of but at OHS this year they have more than enough. I along with the OHS faithful expect this team to be very good, no reason for anything under 7-3, I think 9-1 might be a stretch but it is possible.8-2, maybe 9-1

Owensboro Catholic I have heard some people around Owensboro saying this team is going to be down. They might not be going to a third straight title game but they are still very good and who knows maybe we can make it three in a row. I do expect some early season struggles but by midseason thie team could be rolling like the last couple of years. They need to fill the holes at RB and LB but I believe they have some capable players. Walker is more than capable of continuing the great at QB we have had since Lawson and then Edge took over. They should finish second in the city and roll over the district again this year.8-2

I agree....Catholic may struggle early but it won't last long once the new guys learn their roles..

As long as Catholic stays in Owensboro, they will always have early season struggles and/or the pressure of learning fast. They play 3 4A teams before hitting their 2A district and, over the years, OHS/DC/Apollo have been good early season learning experiences -- i.e. intense rivalries, tough competition, etc. I think it has always been an advantage for Catholic compared to most schools that schedule weaker teams.

Looks about right Billy :thumb:

A friend I have from Owensboro told me that OC really struggled defensively with Ohio County in scrimmage last night. Of course, its still very early but that would seemingly be uncharacteristic for OC.

They struggled in the 1st qtr from what I hear. I got their in the 2nd and they didn't look too bad then. Also had a couple guys out I believe.

Advice to OC , Offense ... Run the football .. Drive block ...

Defense ... The LB's and DB's need to learn to deliver a blow and tackle. I have watched last years champ game several times , the DB's and LB's attempt to grab and hold on. You folks made K Clark look like Jim Brown.

You folks have the players just need to get better at these fundamentals... Good luck

I have to agree with you there.....

Agree 100%. Our defense has been suspect at tackling for a couple of years. This year they have got to learn to hit somebody. Get tough and bring the ball carrier down.

OCHS(7-3)

Defense is very suspect. I could see an 0-3 start if South Spencer is very good. The Aces should rol through district if they get the offense clicking and the defense doesn't kill them. They could lose 4 or 5 if they don't get thougher on both sides of the ball.

OHS(8-2)

Two words, "Defensive Speed." OHS has it and uses it. If the offense can get 10 points a game then 8-2 or 9-1 is very possible. Male is always very good and who knows about Mater Dei.

DC(3-7)

This will be an improved team IMO, but still not a good team. I pick 3-7 but a competitive 3-7. I can't say I'll be surprised with a win total that ranges from 0 to 3.

Apollo(6-4)

Apollo should be decent and might be able to win 7 or 8 if they get lucky, but I think 6 wins is a good number for the Eagles this year.

Big Questions?

How good will Henderson be?

How many kids will come out play for DC?

OHS offense?

OCHS offense and defense?

Where will OCHS and OHS play this year?

Where will OCHS and OHS play this year?

My sources tell me that, if OCHS hasn't completed their stadium project, they will play at OHS????

Billy, are these reliable sources? I thought that OCHS might play at Daviess County or Apollo if the stadium wasn't done yet, but I think both of those teams are playin at home that night.

What happened to Catholic playing at KWC? Was that just bs? Maybe I am way out of the loop.
