Mason County 70 Rowan County 62 (OT)

Featured Replies

Mason frittered away an 11-point lead in the final stanza. Vikings' Whelan hit a 3 to bring them within 1, Mason hit a couple of charity tosses, Whelan hit another 3 to send it to OT, then hit another to put them up 3. Score tied at 62 with a minute and change, Connor Sweeney (who may have been held scoreless all night) buried a 3 to put the Royals up for good. Free throws down the stretch (finally; they weren't dropping for either side) sealed it.

Pig Williams led all scorers with 21, Levi Dunaway (who saw this coming?) with 15, including a couple of huge and-ones. Darren Williams with (I think) 13 and Garrison with (I think) 11. Whelan led Rowan with 19, Antrobus with 16 or 17.

Interesting listening to both coaches on their post-game radio interviews. Coach Biggs very happy pulling out three wins this week that could have all been losses. Coach Thacker praising his kids for the effort, but wishing they could have found a way to get wins out of three fairly competitive losses.

Rowan hosts Fleming in a huge rivalry game on Monday; Mason travels to Clark next Friday.

Mason--A. Williams 21, Garrison 12, Sweeney 7, D. Williams 13, Henry 2, Dunaway 15.

Rowan--Whelan 19, Roberts 4, Antrobus 17, Eldridge 11, Thomas 5, Chapman 1, Woods 5.

Antrobus has the purest free-throw shot I've seen in a while. I enjoy watching the kid play. But a good road win for the Royals even if they did blow an 11 point game in the final few minutes.
