Sorry I have been posting weather updates much this week. I've been moved to a new/old position at my job. I've been in day long meetings for the past two days. Also my shift hours have changed.

 

We all need to get ready for some wild weather next week. Enjoy the spring like temperatures we look to have this weekend. Some may seem temps in the 60s on Sunday and Monday. That will come with a price. Starting late Monday night into the day on Tuesday most if not all of Kentucky will be looking at the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms. The main threats as of today look to be damaging winds, large hail and the possibility of tornadoes. After the front passes we will see the highs on Wednesday drop into the low to mid 30s. Also we need to look for the possibility of some snow.

No it is not. We are looking at below normal temperature in the 8-14 day outlook.

 

Those 60 degree temps will end on Tuesday after the front passes.

As of this morning the severe threat has increased for parts of Kentucky during the Tuesday-Wednesday time frame next week. As of now the main threat area for Kentucky is around the Bowling Green area.

 

This system is projected to mature with an severe threat on Tuesday. A few tornadoes and possibly one or two strong ones could develop. There could also be some damaging bowing structures.

 

I am monitoring this situation closely and will post updates as we get closer to this event.

 

 

this map centered around Tuesday evening is the 300mb map. It shows the jet stream winds and is a good indicator of the energy in the atmosphere. Anything greater that 100 knots indicates high atmospheric energy. Anything greater than 130 knots indicates the potential for the development of a strong low pressure system. As I look at it I see parts of Kentucky in the 130-140 knot wind area. So this needs to be watched closely.

The chance for severe weather threat on Tuesday seems to have increased. The main areas of concern for Kentucky looks to be mainly west of I-65. This includes south central and western Kentucky. The main threats in that area could include damaging winds, large hail with a few tornadoes.

 

East of I-65 to about the I-75 corridor could see damaging winds and hail. As always a tornado or two can't be completely ruled out in those areas.

 

If this trend continues I will be going into severe weather alert mode on Monday. As of now the timing looks be late Monday night into the day on Tuesday.

Here is the updated 300mb map. It shows how the the winds aloft are now showing between 140-150 knot winds through Missouri. These winds are showing the increased chance for the development of strong low pressure system that may cause the severe weather Tuesday.

This shows the possible amount of rain some could receive. This time frame is from around 7 am on Tuesday morning through 7 am Thursday morning.
