Just a quick hit for Friday. It now seems like the second storm may come in a little quicker than first thought.

 

Looks like another possible 4+ inches on Friday for many. NKY here comes your shot at a good accumulating snow.

 

The Richmond/Berea area are, as of now, in the cross hairs for a big hit.

Just got finished reading the forecast discussion by the NWS released about 30 minutes ago. While there is some wiggle room and refining of the forecast as we get closer. But it looks like there is a 48-60 hour window where we might receive and historic snow storm. There is tremendous model agreement with little spread that is increasing the forecast confidence for such an event. They looked back at past events and say this weekends setup is very close to the January 1996 storm.

 

Everyone should start preparing now in case of power outages and not being able to travel.

CBS is reporting the heaviest of snows ( 24" ) will fall in the WVA, VA region...they think the storm will take a more southerly route and sweep northeast into the Carolinas dumping the highest amount north of the low and pulling moisture from the gulf later than expected.

 

Which is fine by me... Less snow in the commonwealth is a beautiful thing!

@nWo, when does it appear this storm is going to start? Is it overnight Thursday into Friday morning, or during the day Friday?

I have been using @nWo 's timely information for the last couple of years. Seems to be spot on. I plow Snow as a side business and it is critical to have the right information. Local news weather stations can close their doors for all I care.

What people need to remember is it really depends how far south it goes and when it makes it turn up the east coast. There is another low that may form just off the east coast that could throw snow back our way. The key to this storm is that the gulf moisture train is wide open and plenty of it will make this predicted storm a monster. Especially if the second low does indeed form. I'm not going to make any judgements on snow amounts until what I use start to show it.
