I saw several discrepencies in these rankings. Just an example Bowling Green ranked 2 spots below Hopkinsville after beating Hopkinsville at Hopkinsville before Bowling Green added their football players.

I'm a little confused about why the 9th region teams are so high. CovCath is a top 20 team, but doesn't have the results to be considered top 5.

NCC is borderline top 25 at best. No way should they be top 10.

So somebody break it down for me...what regions are these teams from?

Click on the link in this thread's first post, browse the top 25 taking note of the power ratings that have been applied to each team from 84.1 to 77.1, then continue to scroll down where each region is listed, and any team that has a power rating of 77.1 or higher will also be a top 25 team.

If two or more teams, for example, Newport Catholic (81.0), and Henry Clay (81.0), have the same rating, they will also share the same position (9) within the top 25.

This week this happens in positions 5 (2 teams), 9 (2 teams), 15 (2 teams), & 18 (3 teams), and to keep only 25 teams in the list, positions are omitted to compensate for when certain position are shared by two or more teams.

1. Paul Dunbar- R11 - (84.1)

2. Mercer County - R12 - (83.4)

3. Covington Catholic - R9 - (83.1)

4. Christian County - R2 - (82.2)

5. Lafayette - R11 - (82.0)

5. Scott County - R11 - (82.0)

7. Trinity - R7 - (81.8)

8. Bullitt East - R6 - (81.3)

9. Newport Catholic - R9 - (81.0)

9. Henry Clay - R11 - (81.0)

11. Southwestern - R12 - (80.5)

12. Ballard - R7 - (79.9)

13. Hopkinsville - R2 - (79.5)

14. Male - R7 - (79.2)

15. Bowling Green - R4 - (78.9)

15. St. Xavier - R7 - (78.9)

17. Fern Creek - R6 - (78.3)

18. Paducah Tilghman - R1 - (78.1)

18. North Hardin - R5 - (78.1)

18. South Oldham - R8 - (78.1)

21. Lexington Catholic - R11 - (77.7)

22. Wayne County - R12 - (77.6)

23. Madison Central - R11 - (77.4)

24. Central - R7 - (77.3)

25. Oldham County - R8 - (77.1)

Covington Holy Cross has beaten all 3 teams ahead of them in the 9th Region. How are they not ranked in the Top 20? This is a popularity contest.

You do realize this is a mathematical formula, right? How would a formula be a "popularity contest?"

Beats me but how is a team ranked below 3 teams that it beat AND 3 of their 4 losses were to teams ranked in the Top 25. The other was to a very good Brossart team. I guess it doesn't really matter though. The district season only has Beechwood left for HC and then, if they're the number 1, a likely smooth ride into the regional tourney where it really counts and Cantrell rankings or Maher rankings mean jack squat.

That's why regular season records and rankings don't mean "Bo Diddley", win the 1st District game and advance to the Regional, and move on from there.
