January 8, 201610 yr Stupid stuff like roads, bridges, lights on the highways, snow removal? Or light rail systems, congressman salaries, etc? The national debt has surpassed 18 trillion dollars and our government continues to spend more than it takes in. I have no problem with a small business owner catching a tax break occasionally. Most small businesses pay more than their fair share.
January 8, 201610 yr Fifth Third, Huntington, BB&T, PNC, most of them do. Normal limit is if you deposit over $5000.00 of cash in a month. You have a bad account at fifth third.
January 8, 201610 yr It is morally wrong to pay cash to eliminate the company having to pay taxes. If you do this, please don't complain about the services provided by your government. That being said, I almost always ask for the cash price. I have no issues doing this to save me and the contractor money. I pay too much in taxes already. In what world do morals and paying taxes go together ?
January 8, 201610 yr You have a bad account at fifth third. If I had my choice we wouldnt be banking with Fifth Third, but its not my choice so..........

This is my entire point about this thread: most of us are ok with a "small business owner 'catching' a break"....that is language that means we endorse tax evasion and that is illegal, but generally people seem to be ok with it. I'm not advocating that I don't think this way...I'm saying that I find it interesting that generally law abiding citizens tend to look the other way about a violation of law. Does no one else find that an interesting mindset that is generally accepted ?
January 9, 201610 yr If you think there is a chance you should ask for the cash price. A friend of mine in laws had a death in the family of an older unmarried uninsured aunt. When the funeral director met with the family they asked for a cash price as they were pooling their money together and they saved almost 2500.
January 9, 201610 yr I've traded products for services as well. Always ask the guy if he has kids. I use them as tips to them as well. So, you can get an oil change for 2 Barbie Dolls and a Ken Griffey Jr. Starting Line-Up figurine?

If I remember a tax course I took somewhere down the line, the value of property or service you receive through a barter transaction is to be considered ordinary income and be reported on your income tax returns.
