BigVMan23 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Went Saturday and Sunday and watched several games. Saw some teams that have been mentioned as possible favorites to win their region (Trinity, Lawrence County, Dunbar, and I guess will throw Murray into that mix), also saw a few teams who will make some noise in their region (Newport Central Catholic, Perry County Central, Bryan Station), and saw some also rans that I won't mention. I know Trinity has been mentioned by some as the best team in the state. They are good, that's for sure. But after watching games this weekend I walk away thinking the state championship is going to really be up for grabs this year. I now really want to see Mercer County so I can compare to Trinity, Dunbar, etc. Also, is it just me, or does there not seem to be a whole lot of offense run by a lot of teams today? I saw several teams that seem to just make a couple of passes and have a guard either try to beat their man and go to the basket or shoot a 3. Maybe it was just matchup's that dictated this in specific games, or maybe it's just where the game is today for a lot of teams, but it is something I did notice. I also saw a player that's getting a lot of notice scoring a lot of points that myself and Lawnboy13 wasn't impressed with at all. He may have been hurt though so I will cut him some slack, but he didn't impress that game against some inferior competition. Someone who did impress was the kid from Buckhorn, Conner Hoskins. Kid plays hard and shoots the ball well, Buckhorn also gets the most out of what they have I thought.
mooremiller31 Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 The player you are talking about is hurt. He is a shell of himself right now.
KYBleacherButt Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Is Mason Faulkner the injured player? I didn't see the first game Caverna played but last night I didn't think he played well. To be averaging close to 40 points a game he's better than what I saw from him.
PrepSpin Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Isaiah Tisdale of Henry Clay looks really impressive to us. Luke Johnson playground style works in the Lexington Catholic lineup. Good seeing these kids shine.
PrepSpin Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Henry Clay shut him down from his average but he still scored double figures on a top 20 team.

Good seeing these kids shine. Tisdale is a heck of a ballplayer. Very quick the the ball, smooth shot. Is Luke Johnson the younger brother or cousin maybe to Tanner Johnson. The similarities are certainly there.

thepeopleschamp Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Henry Clay shut him down from his average but he still scored double figures on a top 20 team. I'm sure he's a fine player but when you take a ton of shots. It's easy to score a lot of points. The honest truth is he should be taking that many shots though. Caverna doesn't have a lot of weapons. When he shoots it gives them their best chance to win. If I coached them I'd do the same thing.

Myself and @BigVMan23 were a little shocked watching him in the 1st half, took what I would call "ill-advised" 3's from a good 25 feet+, but in the 2nd half he did start to make some big shots from "distance". However, after the came you could tell he was not 100% as he was walking with a slight limp. So in all fairness we need to cut the young man some slack. I would agree with @supernat, he is really the only threat to score for Caverna, so fire away young man. I saw every game on Saturday and with that said, besides Conner Hoskins from Buckhorn, I left felling the most impressive performance of the day belonged to Caverna's 5 foot and change guard, Jobby Howard. They have him listed at 5' 7", I think that is generous by about 3 to 4 inches, however, this young man played like a 6'6" power forward. He was not afraid to drive the lane, got quite a few offensive boards...with a stickback or two, and played some really great defense. It's kids like this that make watching these games fun.
