Lawrence County 84 Newport Central Catholic 76

Lawrence is a really good team, and they got to the basket at will, especially Robert Dalton.

NCC shot the ball pretty well from 3, but just didn't get many stops. I felt like Weyer didn't make the impact he could have, but I also didn't realize he had 18 points.

Lawrence rarely uses their bench, so by the end of this stretch they may wear down, but they didn't show any signs of fatigue today.

THIS!

It doesn't take rocket science to figure out what is wrong with newcath. They can't guard. It starts up top with guards keeping there man in front of them. You aren't going to win many games if you think you can just out score teams.

NewCath not exactly a powerhouse this season. Kind of a rebuilding year for them.

This is NOT the NewCath teams of the past 3-4 years that had an abundance of size (Nick Seibert (Cincinnati Christian University), Jake Schulte (South Carolina-Upstate), & Drew McDonald (NKU) and superb guard play (Michael Bueter (Union College), Zach Pangallo (Carson-Newman), Tanner Moeves, & Grant Moeves). BTW, those guards could fill it up besides play defense.

This years guards are being asked to fill some big shoes, and will get better with time.

Always look forward to your contribution to this site.

Thanks, I appreciate that.

The difference in this game was defense. LC's zone gave NCC trouble in trouble in the first half causing multiple turnovers leading to uncontested transition layups. When they didn't get turnovers LC forced NCC to shoot many contested jump shots.

NCC on the other hand allowed penetration to the lane all game for lay ups, dump downs, or kick out open 3s. LC would come down and throw one or two passes and drive right to the middle of the lane and caused the defense to brake down. LC had a ton of points in transition most coming off of turnovers or bad shot selection.

I know NCC is a good shooting team but IMO they settle way too much for shooting 3s. Very few times did they attack the gaps or pentrate the zone. When they (mostly #4) great things happened, layup, got fouled, or kick out 3.

LC attacked all night long. I would like to know how many of LCs points came from inside the paint or the free throw line? I'm saying 60+. It is hard to win games if your NCC giving up that many points in the lane and from the line.

Good Luck to both teams for the rest of the tournament and the season.

Went to dinner after this one, and I ABSOLUTELY will NOT post recaps on my phone.......need my laptop or home computer. :thumb:

The last two games the NewCath defense has been very suspect, this isn't the NewCath team I saw play the 1st 6 games of the season.

Also, you're NOT going to win many when the opposition hits 25 of 30 free throws.

Could be because they have played a lot better teams the last 2 games who have exposed their defenses weaknesses. That is also why LC shot 30 free throws. Can't give up 80+ points and win many games.

Certainly
