Severe Weather Alert Day(Wednesday 12/23/15)

Featured Replies

The potential for significant severe weather has grown. Almost the entire state of Kentucky is now in an enhance area for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening hours. This enhanced area now includes WKY all the way to the I-75 corridor. Cities and points between in the area include Paducah, Bowling Green, Henderson, Louisville, Frankfort, Cincinnati/NKY, Lexington, Richmond, Corbin and London. Everyone should monitor the weather closely this afternoon.

The main threats are tornadoes, some could be significant, damaging wind and hail will also be possible.

Those in east of I-75 are now in a slight risk area.

I will be posting updates throughout the day when I can.

As of this morning the timing looks to be from around 4 to 8 pm this afternoon.

I have alert areas set up in the areas that should see the worst of the possible severe weather this afternoon. So when/if a watch or warning is issued I will post on BGP as quickly as I can.

Quick update. The Storm Prediction Center has already issued a mesoscale discussion for a possible tornado watch for far western KY. They are saying the watch maybe needed before 9 am ET.

Another quick update

The threat level for far western KY has been raised to the moderate level. People in that area should pay close attention to this rapidly developing situation.

3-8 pm CT for the best chance for supercell development and tornadoes. This is mainly west of I-65.

There looks to be a second squall line that will come through after 8pm ET.

This image shows the low over Kansas as of now. If you look around Arkansas you can see the storms starting to fire up in their watch area. Those in WKY should keep an eye on that area. I believe this is what will hit there in WKY.

Just read the NWS is giving this severe weather threat as a 4 out 5. 5 is the highest they go.

Those of you in extreme western KY stay safe. Looks like it's going to be nasty down there.
