I think this game will be close again – real close.

I think you made a good decision!

I like the new avatar, thanks for sharing the photo.

Have any of you saw the new proposed district for our 5A competition for next year. Its posted on the KHSAA website. It has Ashland, JC, Bryan Station, Montgomery County and Woodford County.

How do you think it this will effect the Boyd County and Ashland rivalry?

It looks like a tough district to me. Who is on the other side of our region?

This alignment would only account for 4 district games. We could still play Boyd Co. in one of our 6 non-district games. I think the rivalry would continue – just like our current rivalry with Russell. The Russell game doesn’t count for anything but pride – but it is still very heated and draws a large gate

.

The Russell and Boyd games are big for you guys! Do you think Boyd will lose any luster since its no longer a district game?

As for the other side of the region it looks like it will be Dixie Heights, Grant County, Holmes and Scott.

The only example that I have to draw on is the Russell rivalry. Our game with Russell never counts for district standings or toward making the playoffs. However, it always draws a large gate, with a lot of local interest – and the rivalry is pretty intense. Of course the freshmen teams play in the Kiwanis Bowl every year, which helps to promote this rivalry.

I would expect the Boyd Co. rivalry to continue in much the same manner – as long as we have plenty of non-district games to fill.

Who are your big non-district rival match-ups, and do you think the new alignment hurts them??

You could have witnessed the event firsthand! I cant believe you would have rather spent a week at the beach!?

Really we don't play our big rivalries much anymore. Belfry was always a big game that we don't play anymore, we used to be in the same district. We still play Paintsville for bragging rights. There were probably between 7000-7500 at the Apple Bowl last year. Without a rich winning tradition its hard to establish strong rivalries. I think Ashland and JC could turn into a big rivalry for both teams that has huge gates.

We’re well on the way of making that a reality. People have been anticipating this year’s math-up since last fall.

It should be really interesting since JC only has seats on one side of the field. Let's get ready to rumble!

I agree! It should be a fun night.

Johnson Central will be better than last year, even with an injury or two. Ashland's always tough. Way too early, but fun to talk about because this will be a great rivalry for years to come with the 2007 alignment.

This format will certainly make things interesting – and add heat to already hot rivalries. Situations like 2003 could become common. In 2003 Ashland lost to Boyd Co. in the regular season, and then turned around to beat them in the 2nd round of the playoffs a few weeks latter.

In football it is hard to beat a good team twice in the same season – but it seems that is what it will take now to be district champs.

It is way too early to call.

Great post greybeard!! It is very tough to beat any team back to back. The Class A district will have the same problem as I am sure others will as well.It will bring back some old rivalries and as you said, add new flames to existing ones.

The Raceland vs. Fairview game is always an intense week. This could change as there is a strong possibility that the Rams will be moving to 2A. I hope the game remains on the schedule as it is a big gate for both teams.

I have seen the proposed alignment for 2007 (in another thread on BGP). If I’m not mistaken Raceland and Fairview will both be AA and in the same district. Good news for your rivalry.
