Kevin Spurlock named new coach @ Clay Co!!!

The rest of the 14th would love that.

I think bringing players would qualify as illegal.

It would actually be legal if the player has a legal change of residence. It happens all the time other places.

Hopefully Coach Spurlock will be allowed to do his job with a minimum of interference.

The KHSAA rules say the transfer won't be granted if:

"the change in schools is motivated in whole or part by a desire to participate in athletics at the new school."

I'm guessing the move to Clay wouldn't be because of the chemistry program.

Does the burden of proof fall on the KHSAA or on the student/player transferring in determining if it is sports-related or not?

A good question, and I don't know. It would be an unbelievable coincidence though if a couple of star players decided to transfer from Hazard to Clay at the same time the coach moves from Hazard to Clay and one didn't have anything to do with the other. That should be pretty easy for the KHSAA to figure out.

Some people that I know in Manchester believe that it will happen(one of the two is more football oriented though), but there were a lot of people who thought that Tim Couch was coming to Corbin with Mike Whitaker also.

Perhaps Couch should have. How would that have worked out?

The burden of proof falls on the player if the KHSAA rules him/her ineligble. Funny thing about this though, if the player takes it far enough, the KHSAA may then have to retake the burden.

Coach Spurlock will do a good job at Clay Co. if they leave him alone and let him do his job. As for players transferring to Clay, I don't see that happening.

If any players leaves Hazard, I believe they will go to Perry.

Clay County has always been able to get those wily transfers, somehow- someway it has happend numerous times over the years. Spurlock has a great tradition to follow at Clay Co. and coaching at the school where the legendary Bobby Keith coached and is such a respected figure will not be an easy task to say the least.
