I'm pretty selective in what I burn in my home and rail road ties, etc would never be an option. I agree, but it's always the minority that causes the issues...
November 13, 201510 yr I have to say, so long as they don't take this a step further into banning fire pits and campfires, which obviously don't have the option of catalyzing fine-particulate before emitting it into the air, then I'm not too terribly upset by this. The EPA has said they are not going to be outlawing use of the old stoves that don't meet their 2015 standards...only prohibiting sale of them going forward. Being "not too terribly upset" is what can lead to banning campfires and fire pits.

November 13, 201510 yr To answer some of these questions: It is true that the EPA is not banning currently installed stoves, however...if you choose to move your stove you render it obsolete and illegal. For instance, if you have a wood burning boiler and you want to move it, you are not legally allowed. Inserts are included in this, fireplaces will be written out of the accepted building codes in the future. We received this notice last spring and it is killing the wood burning stove business and costing jobs. Craig's List hottest (no pun intended) item just became used inserts. Bootleg stoves already exist. I have seen guys have them in the back of trucks on weekends at the local Park n Ride. Part of the reason boilers are being looked at is that the forced draft component "pushes" a significant amount of exhaust into the atmosphere, but at a much lower elevation (human height) and neighbors in residential areas were complaining it was contributing to health issues. The EPA can have my wood burner after they pry my cold dead fingers from my AR that I am protecting my compound with from marauding revenurers.... My thoughts, exactly.
