Official Kentucky at Tennessee Bluegrasspreps.com game report

After looking over the rosters and talking to a few Tennessee fans I thought as they did this game was going to be ugly as far as Tennessee was concerned. On paper it appeared that the Kentucky team had a large advantage in talent but, as often happens talent alone cannot win a ball game. Coaching, heart and other intangibles factor on once the game begins. I think this showed big time in this contest after all was said and done.

The game started out nicely for the Tennessee all-stars when Michael Sweatt who will attend Hampton sacked Brian Anderson(Marshall) for a five-yard loss. One minute later Anderson dropped back to pass and threw a nice ball into the hands of Ben Guidigli (Cincinnati) for a 17-yard gain. Guidigli would take a handoff from Anderson and not stop until he had picked up 13-yards. The offense would sputter from there and be forced to punt the ball away.

DeWayne Caldwell (Tenn-Chat) got the ball and made a nice run for Tennessee with 4:52 left in the opening quarter giving his team a first down. Then with 3:35 remaining in the quarter, Nick Reveiz(Tennessee) showed why he is a division one recruit when he bullied his way to a 11-yard gain going right up the gut of the Kentucky defense. Just when it appeared the Orange was going to score Blayne Donnell(Louisville) picked off a pass ending the threat. The clocked showed 3:05 left in what had slowly become an interesting quarter.

Anderson would connect with Guidigli for a 32-yard gain to get things moving for the Blue with 1:50 left in the quarter. Anderson who seemed to be getting in a nice groove dropped back to pass and found Pete Nocha (Louisville) for a big gain with a little more than a minute showing on the clock. The first quarter came to a close with things all even at zero.

Kentucky only needed 1:50 seconds of the second quarter to light the score board up. Paul Warford (Kentucky) scored from about seven yards out and Sean O’ Brien (Murray State) made good on the point after making the score 7-0. The drive totaled 80-yards and took twelve plays)

After stuffing the Kentucky offense the Tennessee special teams got a very nice play from Keelyn Craddock (Hutchinson C.C.) Who after fielding a punt set the crowd off with punt return all the way to the Kentucky 41-yard line. The Tennessee team a short time later got a sweet six yards run from Calwell, who used a nice little spin move to avoid a would be tackler. The defense for Kentucky would come up huge again when Enrique Shaw (Michigan State) picked off a pass from Drew Hayes, who has not decided on a college to attend. The half ended with the Blue team still clinging to a 7-point lead.

The Tennessee team faced a third and six when they gave the ball to Charlie Jordan (Murray State) who calmly picked up twelve yards giving his team a big first down. The Blue defense though would come together and force a punt after the big run.

K. J. Black (Western Kentucky) was in at quarterback for Kentucky and he dropped back to pass but the ball was batted down by Greg Magnifco (N. E. MS. C . C.) Then with 6:41 left in the quarter Guidigli put the ball on the ground and coming up with it for the home team was Magnifco.

T. J. Jennings (Arkansas State) a very sound quarterback dropped back to pass and could not find anyone open so, he tucked the ball then took off toward the right sideline going all the way to the Kentucky two yard line. After Kentucky held team orange to a one yard gain team orange lined up in a power formation and gave the ball to Daniel Becker (Austin Peay) who dove in the end zone. After John Graham (Bethel) hit the point after the game was deadlocked at seven.

Team orange would have the ball again with 1:45 left in the highly contested third quarter when THE NEWARK CATHOLIC FAN PLAYER OF THE GAME picked up a huge gain taking the ball al the way to the Blue forty-five-yard line. Jordan had his number called again this time on a short pass but the result was not a good one for him as THE NEWARK CATHOLIC FAN HIT OF THE GAME came from Orlando Misaaleufua who plowed into Jordan causing a big nine-yard loss. The quarter ended with things all tied at seven.

Caldwell got the ball with his team facing a third and seven and he easily picked up the first down for the orange. All game long team Orange had what looked like an easy time running the ball as their O-line was manhandling the Blue line on a consistent bases. Jordan would have his number called with 5:29 left in the contest and he easily scored from ten yards out. The point after made the score 14-7 Tennessee.

A little more than five minutes showed on the clock and Kentucky was starting at their own 18-yard line. This would be the third drive they had started inside their own twenty in the second half. Team Blue would call a running play for Paul Warford and he electrified his team and the fans with a run of fifty plus yards giving hope that the game would soon be tied. The Orange defense ended that talk when Anderson put the ball on the ground and Braden Binkley ((Harding College) pounced on it.

The Blue defense would again put the clamps on team Orange giving its offense one final chance to make something happen. The offense was able to gain 23 yards on six plays then with fifty seconds remaining in the game Anderson dropped back to pass and making a game ending play for Tennessee was Tyler Wolfe( Tennessee) as he picked it off. Wolfe was rumored not to play at all in this game for an unknown reason stepped up when he got the opportunity.

The final score was 14-7 in favor of the home team.

Just kidding...great report NCF! :thumb:

Great game summary, I could visualize the things happening as you stated. The "unnofficial" stats show that the game was VERY evenly played and the 2 INTS for TN should have given the KY boys a chance to win. Any ideas on the fumble comparison? Thanks!

Other reports seem to display a disappointment in All American Micah Johnson. How did he do? Did he dominate?

I am stunned to see over 280 views at this topic. If you all read this what did you think?

I want to say it was a great read! Felt like I was there. I was unable to attend because of the day it was held but it sounded like a good showing by both teams. I wouldn't root against KY ALL Stars for no reason especially since we had a local kid on the team but being a new Murray State fan :thumb: I gotta give it up to our new recurit. Sounded like Sir. Charles had a great game. Go Kentucky we'll get them next year!!!!! LTW.

Sounds like some may feel that KY didn't have the best seniors on the field in key positions. Players play, regardless of who's D-1 and who's NAIA. Some of the kids from KY, from the information given, were content with their scholarships and coasted through the game. Beating TN year after year had started turning out more D-1 calibur players in the Commonwealth. Before then, it was only a few.
