In Clearwater. The old boys can still bring it.

No Steve Walsh, but the his voice had been going south for years. The new lead made them sound more like the Kansas of old.

Robby Steinhardt, the original violinist and co-lead vocalist, and who now lives in Sarasota, came on stage to sing lead on "Sparks of the Tempest" and returned for the encore to sing "Carry On My Wayward Son" with them.

The crowd was great, but they were so old. ;)

I assume no Kerry Livgren either.

I assume no Kerry Livgren either.

Kerry has contributed songs to albums Kansas made after he left the band in the mid 80s, and wrote all the music for the 2000 reunion album "Somewhere to Elsewhere". I think he's made appearances here and there, but I don't think he's toured with them since he officially left the band. I've seen Kansas at least once in every decade since their first album, 5 times in the last 10 years, 2 times in the 80s, and he's never been with them since the concert I saw at the Bayfront, in St. Pete, in 1984 or 85.

Livgren had a stroke in 2009 and has had to learn how to talk and walk again.

My son was there. He said he really enjoyed it.

He had to have heard me then, because I was the guy who yelled "Yes!!" when they said they were going to play "Belexes". I don't think I've ever heard them do that one in concert.

I saw Kansas at a festival in Cincinnati a few months ago. They were awesome. Probably the best free concert I've ever been to.

Did they save "Come Sail Away" for the encore like usual?

That would be Styx, not Kansas.

Styx, Kansas, what's the difference? :D
