I heard that Lutz himself might be back in the mix!!! Just needs certain criteria met!!

I have heard that also, I think that there is a large group of people over there who are for that as well, the new "hotshot" AD just may be the one on the way out. I don't know. If I can find or get a hold of a former co worker that is a former player for the Tigers and is very close to the program I'll try and find out what he is hearing or knows.

Lutz is still in the mix according to reports but nothing is decided

With the door left open for Bob Lutz to slip back through, Ironton City Schools’ Board of Education took no action on the head football coach’s vacancy Thursday.

Board member Jerry Rowe told the board he had talked to Lutz by telephone and that the veteran coach has agreed to meet with him net week to discuss returning to the job he has held for more than three decades.

“He has been in Columbus — his son had surgery — but he did say he wanted to talk about coming back,” Rowe said. “I do want to talk to him.”

The board will meet in special session next Thursday, June 22, to discuss the matter again.

I thought Lutz retired? I'm sorry but I'm under the impression that retirement mean not working otr i.e. coaching the next season! It sounds like Lutz retirement is shorter than Michael Jordan's!;)

I would be very interested to hear what Watusi and the Belfry folks have to say about your rumor?

Can you enlighten us some?

Woody Jr

Its not my rumor. I was told this by one of the area football officials. Whether there is anything to it or not I don't know.

 I don't think so. Talk about going from the frying pan into the fire.

There are some reasons to think so. He could draw retirement from Kentucky while being paid by Ironton. It is a school who's fans love power football and are very passionate about their team. So in some ways the move would make sense.

I believe he either did not reapply on a yearly form or submitted a letter saying he resigned the position.

Neither of those equal "retirement" from teaching or coaching.

I can see why the rumor would get started, when you think about a possible replacement, Coach Haywood does fit the mold.

Knowing him and his situation here, it would surprise me if he would be interested in this move at this time.

I can't imagine a tougher situation than moving into "Arnton" on the heels of the turmoil there now, following in Coach Lutz' legacy and dealing with all the internal issues that seem to be present.

Someone will have to replace Lutz at Ironton sometime.

In ohio all they have to do is rehire Lutz and then he can double dip, get pension and pay. Rock Hill's Superintendents been doing that one for years over there.

I'm guessing too that the Merril Triplett they're considering must be the son or grandson of the one I know. Cause the one I know is a politician not a coach. I do know some of the people mentioned in the article, I'll have to give Rhonda a call, I think her son will be a Sr. on the team this year. That I'm sure is why she's in there on the coaches advisory board.

I found this in some 2002 Ironton Archives:

Mark Vass, an athletic standout at Ironton, was named head golf coach at Heidelberg College. Vass also serves as an assistant football coach at the school.

BC,

Heres more recent info from just above us in this thread:

Woody,

I played with Mark at Marshall and is currently an assistant coach at Portsmouth West. Before that he was an assistant at Ironton. I'm not sure anyone is wanting to step into that hornets nest.

Coach Triplett was head coach for the Oak Hill Oaks Football team when i worked in Oak Hill Ohio about 4 years ago.Oak Hill is a small town on rt.93 right before you get to Jackson Ohio.Oak Hill always had a winning season.

One year in the early 2000's Paintsville KY. if not mistaken made the long trip to Oak Hill and played them, and lost.My ex coach who coached at Sims Valley Ohio after retiring at Ashland Ky school system played the Oaks and thought alot of Coach Triplett.I hear my ex-coach is retired in Ohio now and maybe thinking about coaching down south.

The idea of a coach retiring and coaching in another state and retiring seems to be a good move to me.:thumb:

I didn't follow Oak Hill or Symms Valley lately. Was it Coach Marsh maybe that went to Symms or Herb Conley? (long day, old timers acting up big time)
