We will set up how the Districts look to be playing out further down, but first let's cover the headlines that led us to this point after another critical week of District vs. District crime

 

Throughbreds Close Hard

The jewel of this week was #7 Newport Central Catholic against #8 Lloyd Memorial and this game lived up to all the hype. After trading blows for the First Half the Juggernauts used the big play and their athletic ability of Justin Durham and Charles Gaines to open up a 2 score lead in the 4th Quarter. Newport Central Catholic has a lot of guys who have played in a lot of big games though and refused to wilt under the pressure to come from behind to take a 29-26 win.

 

The Breds continue their unprecedented streak of District wins and more importantly locked up the District 6 Title.

 

 

Wildcats Close the Door

Another heavily billed game was #9 and undefeated Leslie County travelling to #10 Shelby Valley with the District 8 Title up for grabs. Unlike the NewCath/Lloyd game this one was over before it ever got started. The Wildcats roared to 544 rushing yards and beat the Eagles into submission 62-28.

 

Chandler Rowe went off for 272 yards and 2 TD's, Jordan Hampton and Kasey Tackett each hit the century mark as well adding 5 more scores. This marks the second consecutive District 8 Title for the Wildcats.

 

They close with Allen Central and then a potential huge regular season finale against 1A Paintsville.

 

Falcons Outlast Glasgow

 

Sometimes it feels good to be right and Monroe County has done their part to make the Bluegrasspreps staff look good for their early season call as the Falcons being one of the dark horses in 2A. Monroe's 32-28 win all but locks up District 3 Title and will make sure that DeSales has to make the lengthy trek to Southern Kentucky in the 2nd Round.

 

Monroe finishes their district slate with Green County this week and then battle for some Southern Kentucky bragging rights against 4A Wayne County in the finale.

 

House Cleaning Left

Most Playoff seeds look pretty sure at this point for the majority of the class, but there are still a handful of key games left to finalize the brackets.

 

*The biggest will be #5 Danville travelling this week to Lexington to take on LCA. It is winner take all for the District 7 Championship. Danville enters as a heavy favorite, but LCA is riding the momentum of a big win against Somerset. Last year this game provided one of the craziest games in the Commonwealth in a 58-57 win for Danville that decided the District Title.

 

*Northern Kentucky is the biggest battleground though, with home plaoff games on the line in both District 5 and 6. The most anticipated matchup will be Covington Holy Cross travelling to Erlanger to take on #8 Lloyd Memorial. Both teams suffered hard fought losses to Newport Central Catholic and appear to be fairly evenly matched. In District 5, Owen County travels to Gallatin County. Owen County controls their own destiny for the #2 seed, but a loss (coupled with most likely a Carroll County win against Trimble County) will result in the dreaded 3-way tie.

 

The 3-way tie is important to avoid for Owen County as currently they only hold 2 points from their victories. Gallatin has 3 points, and Caroll leads with 4 points thanks to Eminence. Owen County would have to beat Eminence in the season finale and hope Gallatin County is unable to beat Middletown Christian (5 points).

Does anyone see any upsets in the first or second rounds??? Or is the first round pretty secure???

Really the only "upset" I could see is p-burg over LCA. But i think its not a great match-up for LCA. If Dalton Frasure gets going its hard to stop him.
