I don't know all the regions well enough to predict them, so I figured I'd ask and see who everyone thought the favorite in their district is!

 

IMO the 10th is Mason County's to win, with Campbell, Scott, and GRC right behind them

Agree with your favorites for the 10th, but dont be suprised to see Bracken Co. make some noise. I think many on here are overlooking them.

I don't think they are deep enough to be considered a favorite, but would definitely be considered a sleeper in my book.

Bracken County messed up be letting go of Patrick Kelsch. Just don't see them being a factor this year. The 10th is a 2 horse race with Mason/Campbell and Scott/GRC being the party poopers for the top 2 teams.

So, there were extinuating circumstances in the Mason situation, but couldn't possibly have been in the Bracken situation?

My point had nothing to do with teaching positions or lack there of. I was simply suggesting that there could be a variety of circumstances affecting ones employment, besides wins/losses, just as the other post eluded to about Masons coach, in that case, being because of a teaching position, even though they made it to the semi-finals of the state.

I'm still trying to figure out how you're comparing Piper and Patrick's release. Patrick was cut because they "wanted to take the program in a different direction". Not sure what direction that is but okay. Piper's had nothing to do with basketball.

On the surface a person could say, Mason "messed up", as you said Bracken did, because Piper took Mason to the semifinals of the state. But as you stated, there were other circumstances, in this case you say it was a teaching position.

 

So maybe Bracken had other circumstances as well, not

necessarily a teaching position, that they looked at, as well.

Everyone is so quick to assume Bracken will struggle with a new coach. Why?

 

Could the same argument be made for Mason Co. and Cox?

 

Bracken may very well struggle out of the gate that is yet to be determined. So could Mason Co. as well. Not taking anthing away from Cox but he is a new coach just like Bradshaw no matter where you are there will be a learning curve. A team is only as good as their leader. Piper had the Lady Royals playing at a high level and she was let go for reasons other than coaching I get that, but who knows if Cox will have the same chemestry with those girls as Piper did. Same goes with Bracken. Sometimes making a change like both schools did could be the best thing the schools ever do, but on the flip side it could be a disaster. Only time will tell on both teams.

 

But to assume that Mason will not miss a beat and Bracken will struggle all year is just crazy talk at this point.

I guess it's all in what is considered a successful season. The bar is extremely high at Mason Co this season. Anything less that a district, region, and dare I say state title would be a disappointment. Well maybe the first two at least. With the same team coming back one would think that has to be what the Mason Co team would call a success.

 

As for Bracken winning a district and being competitive in the region and letting the chips fall where they may would be considered a success. IF they was to win the region and that's a big IF then it would be iceing on the cake.

 

That's the difference in a 3A school vs a 1A school. To be honest Brad Cox has more pressure to perform and put a winning product out there night in and night out than Barrett Bradshaw hands down.

 

As far as the whole Piper/Patrick discussion. It's really not even worth talking about. They have both moved on to other teams and so should all on here that want to keep talking about it. It really isn't even a topic of interest anymore. There are going to be questions about both situations that the common public will never have the answer too so we may as well leave it at that.
