Mullins: 'Parachute' needed to slow Baker

Greenup County coach Chris Mullins just may have to unveil a bag of tricks on Friday at Putnam Stadium.

 

Ashland’s Quinton Baker can compel an opposing coach to do such a thing.

 

“I bet a lot of coaches have been asked how to stop Quinton Baker,” Mullins said. “Nobody’s done a very good job at that. I thought about a few things, and I thought, if we put a parachute on his back, it might slow him down. Stop’s not a good word when you’re playing a kid like Baker. You just hope to somewhat corral or contain him.”

I'd love to see Ashland clear the Johnson Central hurdle and get to BG to potentially face South Warren. Arguably the state's most explosive offensive player vs. the state's stingiest defense allowing only 4pts and 50 rushing yards per game.

I haven't seen the young man play but if he is anything like his dad was in high school at Trigg County. Not sure that the best defense will stop him. Al Baker was by far the best back I ever faced. I seen moves that no one else could think about plus power and speed.

You can stop this kid in the backfield and he will still score a TD. The top programs are missing out on him.

If Al hurdled defenders back in his day, then that would be one similarity between father and son. Quinton is a special athlete, as was his dad. Ashland has a pretty good oline which will make it even harder for anyone Ashland faces this year to shut Baker down.

 

Between Baker and the talent around him, Ashland is my darkhorse favorite to win state. They very well may have 4 d1 athletes on this team before its all said and done.
