Lexington Catholic was the better team. However, let me add this...

 

I attended both games of this tournament and had planned on supporting Danville, since they were the representative of the twelfth region. However, after seeing the sportsmanship of their fans and players, I'm happy Lexington Catholic pulled this one out.

 

Frankly, I have never seen fans or players act this way. I was there, and I actually heard fans cursing at umpires from the stands and even challenging them to fights after the game. The worst part, though, was watching Danville's first baseman and catcher get tossed from the game and, get this, physically challenge the umpires - both had to be restrained.

 

I have no respect for the Danville program at all, from coach Morse down. To allow a teenage kid to act this way is reprehensible; to condone such behavior is a joke, period.

 

On a higher note, the Witten kid from Danville had two opposite field homers, and more than that, he showed some class on the field. He is the real deal with the stick.

Sit on either side at any game and I am sure you can hear this sort of banter coming from some fans. Not all of them, but there are always some.

 

Every time an umpire makes a call there are half the people that like it and half that don't.

 

I don't believe this is unique to Danville.

I have to agree with Hardball. At the All "A" in their loss to Campbellsville the Danville fans were terrible. One fan pigeonholed a tournament official and started screaming to him about the umpires. As the game went on the Danville fans became more and more abusive.

That's funny... because they didn't play Campbellsville this year.

Lefty, I'm with you. I wasn't there, so I can't comment, but fans get rowdy and spirited in big games. Especially when things don't go your way. What I can comment on is Character, and I know Paul Morse has it, and I know he played with it. I played two sports with him in HS for two years, and I know he played and went about his business the right way. I actually competed at the same position with him in one sport, and there was never any animosity between us. He was a great mentor to me. I can't say what happened with some angry parents, or some 16 year olds that might have lost it in the heat of battle, but I can tell you Paul wasn't encouraging such activity.

Let's hope that these kids get their attitudes from their parents and not coach Morse, then. But in the end, who fills out the lineup card every day?

Maybe you should have seen more Danville games than this one, and know a little more about them before you start bashing Danville's kids.

I'm not bashing their kids - I'm bashing their coaches for letting the kids act that way...

 

The coach was tossed for arguing the tag play between first and second. Duhram was tossed for coming out of the dugout to first base to argue the same call (a play in which he wasn't involved), then had to be restrained. The Lynn kid was tossed for arguing with the home plate umpire while warming up his pitcher between innings, then after he was tossed, looked like he was going to try to fight the plate umpire. Are these the circumstances you were asking about?

 

And this was the fifth Danville game I've seen this year, not the first.

 

Anyway, congrats on a good season Danville; good luck Lexington Catholic.

LC was the better team in the two games because Danville couldn't field the ball either game. Danville out hit LC 22 to 19 but made way to many errors to win.

 

The umps for this series were not very good to say the least. Very inconsistant, and to throw to kinds out in that kind of game for nothing that showed up the umps, (from at least the stands) was pretty bad.

 

Talking to the Danville Coaches, the first baseman didn't even say anything until after he had been tossed. According to them, the umpire said he tought he heard someone say something from the dugout and said he just turned aroung and throw the first guy out he saw. Now the first baseman did over react, but being a senior and playing in possible your last game and getting tossed for something you didn't say might cause me to over react also.

 

The catcher getting tossed while down in his stance worming up the pitcher between innings is a first for me. Usually a catcher can say what ever he wants to an umpire when he is in their catching,(as long as he doesn't show him up). The Danville Coaches said the ump that throw the catcher out admitted the catcher used no profanity, but he was tired of the over all complaing by both teams. It sounds like if the umpires wanted to throw someone out the should have tossed a coach or two not the players.
