CAL Does It Again

For the third straight year Christian Academy- Louisville took down 2A Heavyweight DeSales in the regular season matchup. The Centurions Defense reigned supreme and shutout DeSales 16-0 behind a Clay Davis Touchdown Reception and a huge 104 yard Interception Return for a TD by Milton Wright. Neither team reached 200 total yards in a physical war.

 

With the win, CAL all but locks up the #1 Seed in District 4. DeSales will most likely take their show on the Road in Round 2 to whoever wins this week's matchup between District 3 Rivals Monroe County and Glasgow.

 

If the Colts' fans are not hitting the panic button though it is for good reason. This is the Fourth consecutive regular season loss that DeSales has had at the hands of CAL. The past three seasons these two have met again in the post season only to see DeSales move on.

 

 

A Hitch In The Colts Giddy Up?

Though DeSales may not exactly be overly concerned with their ritual regular season loss to CAL, one thing that may be worth noting is the fact this is the second time the Colts have been shutout in a three week stretch. The Colts' ground game has sputtered in their two losses averaging a meager 92.5 yards per game in those defeats.

 

Mayfield Back On Top

The gap between Mayfield and DeSales has been essentially non-existent since the Bluegrasppreps.com Pre-Season rankings were intially unveiled. With the result of the battle for Jefferson County Mayfield has finally put DeSales in the rear view as the Cardinals continue to hold course out West.

 

With a hard fought win over Murray and a much needed BYE the Cards should be able to rest some bumps and bruises the next two weeks and have all hands on deck with a matchup against #4 3A Caldwell County looming to close out the Regular Season.

 

The East Takes Center Stage

The Western side of the Semi-State has dominated the headlines much of the season and for good reason, but this week is all about the East in an otherwise "light" schedule. Two clashes between Top 10 teams highlight the slate.

 

District 6: #7 Newport Central Catholic outlasted a gritty Holy Cross team last week and now welcome #8 Lloyd Memorial. Both teams share a common opponent in 6A Conner. The Juggs fell 6-0 whereas the Throroughbreds fell 21-17.

 

District 8: #9 Leslie County travels to #10 Shelby Valley. The Eagles came form behind to take down Prestonsburg 30-20 on the road and now must head to Pike County to take on Defending Regional Champs Shelby Valley. Leslie remains the lone undefeated team in 2A at 7-0, Shelby Valley has won six straight since their season opening debacle and have outscored their opponents 233-72.

I am looking forward to seeing a healthy Mayfield again in the coming weeks

When will Trajon Bright be back?

Nice analysis. Sixteen first downs and zero points for the Colts on Friday. They need some big play potential. They have a couple of guys on defense with breakaway speed. After the CAL loss last year, the coaching staff moved a couple of defensive studs to the offensive side of the ball to help the offense (Pirtle being the primary one). We may see the same thing this year.

I honestly did not get the DS play calling, why did they get so far away from what worked and get pass happy? Johnson and his receivers are not as polished as the DS ground and pound or Johnson on the keeper

Who are those defensive players we should see on offense? I know the kids by name, let's see if we are on the same page DeSales dad.

Mayfield's defense has had to carry the Cards so far this year though getting Bright and some changes should help. The Cards defense is noticeably quicker but not as big. The linebackers are really good and the DB's have been good all year. The teams that have hurt us a bit have been big and physical. It sounds like a description of DS. Hard to answer other than the Cards are quicker and DS is bigger and likely more physical
