After the OHS v. Christian County score... I would think you would move Owensboro Catholic ahead of Hopkinsville. Seems odd as well that you still have Hopkinsville ranked higher than Christian County as well as Caldwell when they beat both head to head.

Zone,

1. I'm not following you on how the Owensboro 49 vs Christian County 24 October 2 game influences OCath jumping Hopkinsville at this point. Please help me understand your point from this vantage point.

2. My take of OCath vs Hopkinsville is this. Both are good teams and I expect both to do really well in the playoffs. OCath lost 2 games to 1 decent 6A school and 1 very good 5A school. Hopkinsville lost Sept 18 to Christian County who is a good 5A school. Since these losses, OCath was bounced out of the Top 10, but has fought and earned their way back into the Top 10 thanks alot to their nice win vs 5-2 Butler County, a district opponent. Hopkinsville has only played district opponents (Madisonville and Logan County) since their loss. I don't judge scheduling when it comes to your district opponents as they are what they are. With all this said, both teams have won recently and I see no need to move OCath above Hopkinsville AT THIS TIME.

3. Christian County beat Hopkinsville 42-28 on September 18. And in that poll the week of the 18th Hopkinsville fell 4 spots in this poll, while Christian County advanced 2 spots in the poll. What I'm saying here most is the head to head matchups do matter, but they matter most closer to the time that they were played because both teams have the option to advance (get better) or decline (get worse) as the season goes on. And this list is fluid to the historical changes. Christian County didn't play well at Owensboro, but Owensboro had a lot to do with that. Hopkinsville schedule is softer than Christian County's, but we're talking about district games here. Hopkinsville has won there district games and Christian hasn't won all theirs. In this ranking if you lose you drop and if you play poorly you can drop around 4 spots and this is what happened to Christian County. They have to earn their way back up the rankings; it won't be given to them. And Christian County has games against Graves and John Hardin that can help them do that.

4. Christian County beat Caldwell County in the season opener at Caldwell 23-21. This is a very good win as Caldwell is a very good team. Looking at what really happened in this game, Caldwell turned the ball over 4 times and missed a potential gamewinning FG late in the game. So what; I don't take that away from Christian, but that happened on August 21st. I would argue Caldwell has gotten considerable better especially at QB; while Christian has somewhat plateau'ed or beaten teams they are better than and clearly losing to teams they aren't better than. Hope this helps you see where I'm coming from more so than making you agree with me. :thumb:

I see where your coming from.. Just giving you another take. I think you are spot on with your top 5 teams although the order can always be debatable but hard to prove. Really 6-10 is a crap shoot... I think if your Christian County the only 2 teams you have lost two are in the top 4 but you also have 2 teams you beat at #6 & #7. Hopkinsville's best win is over a Murray team that was missing a few guys. Caldwell's best win is over a 4-3 PT team. OC's best win is over Butler Co and Etown is in the eastern time zone so I'm not even sure they can be considered Western KY but I know their districts set up over here so I'm fine with them. Not saying your wrong, I get it's the what have you done for me lately motto but just giving you something to think about.

This is some really good stuff here Zone! I appreciate it when people jostle these teams up because as you said it's all debatable! I really don't disagree with any of your points, and to give you a little nugget of info - Etown will be moving to the Louisville Area rankings after this weeks poll. More to come on that later. Anywho, thanks for making good points here! :thumb:

I know it's probably a double crap shoot, but what do you think about 11-15? Who is most suspect? Which one would you move to the top 10 first?

I would have Daviess County Top 10 before Christian County and they deserved to be ranked ahead of Owensboro Catholic. Daviess lost to Owensboro and McCracken (while missing some star players).

I cant really argue against that Brown even though I think if those 2 teams played 10 times.. OC wins 8 of them. Just was an off night from what I seen. I think Daviess is the most deserving, however if they lose to Henderson then they are right where they should be. Not sold on Adair yet... if they beat Etown then I'll consider. But the one team that is a Top 8 team IMO and is very dangerous is Murray. They have shown that when the temp drops and ball control and defense matters they come to play. They are a scary team that has a really bad loss to Graves and a not so bad loss to Hoptown but was banged up that game. I'm pretty sure Mayfield fans would agree with me.

Interesting point Brown! While I honestly think 6A Daviess is a good team, I struggle with moving them higher because their out of district wins are against 2 2A teams (and their best win is against a 2A team) and 2 4A teams whose combined record is 11-21 and their record is 5-2. 5A Christian Co has beaten the following non-districts 2 3A schools, 1 4 school, and 1 6A school whose combined record is 18-12 and Christian's record is 6-2. I just don't see it. Don't hate em, but can't pull the trigger for them. Give me an angle to help me switch them?

Concerning over OCath, do you honestly expect me to believe that you would pick Daviess County to beat OCath today in a rematch of those teams given the way OCath is playing? I know you know more about Owensboro/Daviess County football than I, but I'm not blind. Yes Daviess won by 6 - in OT back on August 28, but Lordy both teams have crossed many bridges since then!

Zoneblitz good points - it may have been an off-night for Catholic. DC and OC are both solid teams IMO and I don't know if I can answer how many times OC would win out of 10 with DC (I would guess 6 but who knows). I've seen Christian County up close and IMO Daviess and OC are better. Although certain teams match up better with others (DC and OC are a good example of 2 close teams). OHS has such a good defense it's hard for me to definitely tell how well CC would do against Daviess or OC. IMO Daviess and OC have solid defenses, better than CC. But CC has more team speed than either.

Honestly if Christian Played Owensboro Catholic this season I think Catholic would be the favorite. They have more experience and a super quarterback who can control the tempo. I do feel Christian could play with them and with a few breaks could pull the upset.. Seen Davies County not close up but have watched em a think Christian would beat em. Could be wrong but usually my guts is on point. I hope Christian has the opportunity to play either BG or the Red Devils in the playoffs and see if they can make a better showing.

Well since OCath is at #8 and Christian is at #10 then we're good except for Daviess. Lets see how the fare with Henderson to see if anything could be used to effectively compare scores between Daviess and Christian.

Trap, I think you will definitely get your wish!

I don't think Catholic's schedule will hurt them.

1. They had OHS down 14-0, but "let'em off the hook" with their poor special teams kicking. I think that's done now, that he is getting it in the endzone.

2. They play a North Hardin team that is very athletic and bigger then OC. North is down, but it will be a good game for them to prepare for Murray High.

3. Drops..You don't see them dropping the ball since the Daviess County game. They had about 12 drops that game alone. Then the next week vs. Owensboro they only had 2.

4. IF their young OL/DL continue to improve they will be a handful for teams.

I just wouldn't count them out. They have the capability to get to Bowling Green, but they also could "flop" and get beat by Murray.

2A West is just wide open.

Rambo, good points here! I think OCath is right where they need to be. I only mentioned their schedule because it's not difficult, but not their fault really because it's district play. That North Hardin game should be interesting as you mentioned. I'm not a big N Hardin fan, but hope OCath can come out and set the tone early to show other 2A teams they mean business. This will ensure a great post-season. As you mentioned, the West side of 2A is CRAZY, but will be fun to watch!

I didn't mean to get on here to compare Christian Co v. Owensboro Catholic... It was more kind of point out how I think Hopkinsville/Caldwell (both very good teams) are ranked slightly higher than I would have them and they both have losses to Christian Co who are ranked behind them. I would probably have Owensboro Catholic #6 and Christian County (even with 2 losses) #7. Caldwell #8, Daviess Co (this is a big week for them) #9, and then Hopkinsville #10. Which I know is all completely debatable. I understand you could say the same about Daviess Co but I'm a OC fan so I'm slightly bias :)
