Dealing with North Korea?

Featured Replies

Much like the other thread asking about a preemptive strike against Iran, what are you guys thoughts on North Korea? In my opinion, they pose a much larger threat to international security than Iran. Along with upping their rhetoric against the United States and, testing long range missiles and engaging in low level conflict with South Korea, they have also just announced that they have revamped and restarted their nuclear reactors.

Iran's ambiguity regarding their nuclear capabilities can be characterized as a defensive tactic; they have enemies in their region and they don't want those enemies to know exactly what they are capable of. Can the same be said about North Korea?

Unlike Iran, North Korea has a well documented history of human rights violations, and their leader has shown on multiple occasions to be highly irrational. Do they pose a bigger threat to the United States? Do those of you who lobbied for a preemptive strike against Iran, also support a preemptive strike against North Korea?

Depending upon how close those strikes are to the border, you might make sure the Chinese are cool with it first.

As an ally of North Korea, it is hard to imagine that China would be OK with this no matter how close it took place to the border.

For the record, I don't believe we should launch a preemptive strike. I just wanted to get some others opinions on the situation, as it seems pretty similar to the discussion we were having on Iran.

Fortunately for the US, China is starting to get tired of NK antics also. NK needs China, I don't know if China really needs NK all that much anymore.

Oh, I don't think they are chummy at all but they also don't want you to close to their air space or destroy a nuclear facility that might spill radiation in their direction. :thumb:
