CCH's Tony Roch To Walk On at UK

Featured Replies

The outstanding kicker and young man, Tony Roch, of CCH will be walking on at UK next year. IMO he's got a solid chance of seeing action before he leaves(think Sebastian Janikowski without the attitude and rap sheet).

Congrats to Tony. Great kid. Great kicker.

That's two classes in a row that will have the kicker kicking D1.

Shane Popham - you ready?

Have had the pleasure of knowing Tony since he was a little kid. He and his family are a huge blessing to our Parish. I have have gone so far as to write to the Murray State University Football Coach to try and get him a Scholarship, and I for one think that he will regret that he didn't give Tony one. Great kid, great family, and I am so very proud of him, and in fact told him so the other day. I also told him, that he had to sit with us old guys, as he wasn't a CovCath student any longer, but now a old alum...........

CovCath has had a nice streak of kickers. Popham should continue that streak.

Anyone know how Michael Awadalla did last season??

Anyone know how Michael Awadalla did last season??

I'm pretty sure he redshirted and is was about 3rd on the depth chart.

:thumb: I talked to him a few months ago and he said he should be able to compete for the starting job as a sophomore or junior becasue there will be a senior kicker there this upcoming season, his freshman season.

I believe Tony is ready for the next level the only question is will he have what it takes to kick in the SEC? UK has already signed a kicker who will be a freshman so does Tony have a chance? Despite that he had a pretty good year for just starting his senior year. If Popham works his butt off, I believe he will be able to kick at the next level,... my guess would be Dayton. They recruited Roch but he doesnt have the grades that Popham does. Pophams older brother went to UD and i believe that Shanes grades and leg will be able to get his on the team.

Michael Awadalla had quit the football team. I talked to him and he told me they brought in another kid on scholarship and he didnt think he would be seeing any time. Good experience, great kid, even better future.

Easy, Champs. The only reason Tony is not at UD is cash and has nothing to do with grades.

Just a little note...I talked to Tony today and he isn't for sure walking on. He said he would like to but hasn't talked to any coaches or anything.

Agreed.... Top notch family, but when you have two in Catholic grade school and one in Catholic high school, it's tough to come up with that kind of cash to pay for a private Catholic University. Tony will do very well at UK, even if he doesn't play football, as he is a tough kid, and will do whatever he needs to do to get ahead. Not sure what he will be majoring in, but I would think something to do with communication would be right up his alley.....

Some D1/D2 College could have had not only a great kicker, but a great leader playing on their team....Too bad for them....... In this day and age of bad kids getting scholarships and embarrassing their Universities a kid like Tony not getting a scholarship is just a shame.....

In no way shape or form was i trying to say Tony isnt a smart kid,... what i was trying to get to is that he doesnt have to money to get there but with better grades he may have been given more financial aid from the university,... i too know Tony very well, and think he will do great at UK whether he plays or not,... By the way cshs where did u hear he was planning on walking on?

I talked to Tony after the All-Star practice yesterday about walking on. He said that he felt great at practice kicking (he was averaging about 70 yards on his kickoffs,... i didnt even see that during the season). He told me that he felt he would regret it if he did not at least try to walk on at UK so he said he is planning on walking on. Great kid with a good leg,... good luck Tony

Champs05 i agree..i when by practice yesterday before the rain and the kid was kicking the ball anywhere from 60 to 70 yrds. The kid does have a good leg, and a nice young man as well. Good Luck in your future as a walk on.
