Bluegrasspreps' Class 1A Rankings 8-23-15

Featured Replies

Numbers make it look like they are. But I agree they have several more options. I just want to see how the new QB does having to throw the ball 15-25 times a game if the running game isn't working.

The secondary question though is will they face anyone who will cause their running game not to work in 1A?

Heck.. even Belfry couldn't shut down Pugh last year. 25 carries, 147 yards, 3 TD

Only two backs went over 100 yards on Belfry all season... Pugh and Bryce Workman. Pugh did it against a healthy Belfry defense.. Workman did it with Horton, Bentley, and 4 other Pirate starters out.

By comparison Other Very Good Backs:

Buford, Henry Clay 13 carries, 38 yards

Doan, Southwestern/Somerset 15 carries, 98 yards (Over 60 on one carry though)

Edwards, Southwestern 7 carries, 24 yards

Beason, Central 9 carries, 28 yards

Conley, Russell 11 carries, 33 yards

McKee, Russell 9 carries, 14 yards

Good illustration. I think it goes without saying that without good blocking, the running game is non effective. Pikeville's offensive line is no doubt collectively larger and quicker than last season's team. Last Friday's game would confirm that, if you compare them to last season. So, much can be said about the Panther's blocking up to this point. While he is a beast at RB, I'm sure Daric Pugh would admit himself ; it takes both.

How big is the gap between #1 and #2

On a scale of 1-10 1 being no real gap, to 10 being a huge gap...how big is the gap?

Beechwood has not played a game yet. After this Friday we will have a better idea. I believe the gap is very small but I really don't know.

In Class A that is an excellent question. It's too early in the season to tell and there is a lot of football left until the playoffs start.
