Spencer County 48 Bardstown 14

Featured Replies

Congratulations to Mike Marksbury and Spencer County on a great win to start off the season.

Is Spencer this good or is Bardstown this bad?

Spencer has a nice team. Coach Marksbury does a great job, but Bardstown is not very good. It's going to be a long year for the Tigers.

Bardstown may not be this bad, but they didn't come out ready to play and SC took full advantage. Spencer drove it all the way down to about the 5 on the opening drive but fumbled it away, only to have Bardstown fumble it right back a couple plays later. Spencer went up 7-0 right after that.

On the ensuing kickoff, I looked over and saw Bardstown had only two guys up on the right side, and thought that if SC onside kicked it they would have a good chance to get it. And they did, scoring again a few plays later. Tried to onside kick it the very next time and nearly got it again, even though the Tigers had more guys playing up this time.

Spencer just took Bardstown out of its game plan early, and the Tigers aren't a team built to play from behind. Tough to recover when you're in a 14-0 hole less than 5 minutes into the game.

I don't know how many times in history SC and Bardstown have played before 1998, but it seems this would almost certainly be the Bears' first-ever win over the Tigers.
