Worst varsity fields in NKY

Featured Replies

That was it. BTW, sorry to rip on your team's field :heh:

No problem, at least there are the few matches held early in the season in which it is usually OK. After that, we are at the mercy of the weather and football team.

There is also a belief, held by just a few, that if you can dribble and control the ball while playing at home.... it becomes a much easier task when playing elsewhere.

Yes!!! Finally Cooper is #1 at Something!!!!! Go Jags!!!!!!

ooops :sssh:

Do I sense someone questioning the coaching staff or a "few" Cooper players that don't particularly like to share the ball?

Your way off base on how you took my comment....

I am saying that a few players feel that if you can dribble and control the ball on Cooper's field, it should be easy to do the same thing on any other pitch.

Now to your comment, why would you think there are players at Cooper that do not like to share the ball?

My apologies YC, apparently I mistakenly saw a hidden message in there.

I have no knowledge or reason (other than I suspected you were possibly indicating this) to believe some Cooper players do not wish to share the ball.

No apologies needed.... I thought maybe you had some juicy gossip....

I never buy into or bite on "gossip", although there is plenty to go around. The games don't lie, once this thing (season) finally gets going the truth will be told by the players' own actions between the lines for all to see for ourselves.

It has been my observation that when a team that is used to practicing on grass (and on a rough field at that) goes to a pitch that is turf they start the game putting too much oomph on their passes and overshoot their own players. They will adjust as the game goes but there still will be times when they pass too hard all the way to the final whistle while the team who is used to playing on turf is much more consistent with its passes throughout the game.

That being said, I think futbol (and football) should be played on grass in the great outdoors--just my not-so humble opinion.

So I guess we nailed every team in NKY that still has a grass pitch, except St. Henry. Is there any stadium that has a turf field, that is a bad experience to watch to match? I'm beginning to dislike the fields with tracks around the pitch open areas behind the goal. Slows the game down too much chasing the balls.

Any thoughts???

Most every HS varsity game has ball boys, so "slowing the game down" is normally not an issue. I do agree the stadiums with a track around the field provide a less enjoyable view then ones without a track. IMO the closer to the field the better.

I would have liked to see Campbell Co upgrade their soccer only game field, no track and the bleachers were close to the field, at field level, provided a great viewing angle.

I never understood why they do not use the soccer field at Campbell Co, I thought it was a pretty decent field.

Agreed most have ball balls but was thinking Simon Kenton, over the fence, and Dixie balls going everywhere. . . .

Campbell County had a great venue to watch soccer, especially at night. I also enjoyed the grass field at Scott behind the stadium.

Scott still uses the grass field for many of their home games. I know the coaching staff and parents work very hard at maintaining it and keeping it in very good condition.

And they do an awesome job. :thumb:
