Boone County 11 Cov Cath 7

What a shocker! Cory Farris goes 2-3 with 2 home runs and 3 RBI. He now has 8 home runs and this Sophomore has led the varsity team in HRs his 8th grade year, 9th, and right now he has 8 and second place to him is Brad Khroman with 4. Farris is batting .501, 29 stolen bases, 31 RBI, and 6 triples. This kid is the Shaun Alexander of baseball for Boone County, maybe even football too :sssh:

Have I ever mentioned that I think Farris is a pretty good athlete?

Yeah, it was the one time you were right.:p

What position does this kid play? Does he pitch? If he is anywhere close defensively to where he is at the plate, he should be getting some major college offers in the future.

He catches for Boone as far as I know. I'd guess he can probably play most positions.

Yeah he's played catcher since 8th grade and he is good at it too. He's already recieved letters from the Milwaukee Brewers about summer camp and another professional team but i forget who. This kid will go D1 is baseball. Guarantee it!! and he could go probably go D1 is football (everyone knows he plays RB,QB,P,K,WR,CB and had 321 yards rushing in his 1st playoff game- he was only like 45 yards shy of breaking Alexanders Boone County record) but he loves baseball and playing in the major league is his dream.

Not to mention he started Varsity basketball this past season too, but rumors are he is quitting basketball to focus on baseball and football.

Sounds like a good well rounded athlete... but in my opinion if he wants to go on and play D1 in baseball or even look into the draft...he may need to concentrate on just baseball, especially as a catcher. Catchers see a lot of wear and tear over 4 years... combine that with a fall full of hard tackles and it may hurt him in the long run. No doubt though... the kid is a very very excellent athlete!

I do not know the young man but I'd say "no chance" on him giving up football.

As a hitter, he has no sophomore (much less most upperclassmen) equal to him, or even close to him, but as a catcher, he needs to work on his footwork, especially with blocking the balls in the dirt. Having that very, very close backstop at Boone County, actually hurts him IMO, as he doesn't have to worry quite as much about balls getting past him which can lead him into some bad habits of just reaching for balls instead of using his body to block them. He has a great arm, and seems to understand the game, so with time and work he could and should get that D1 scholarship. I have enjoyed watching him play........

Boone doesn't quit. Ya gotta get 21 outs befor its in the bag with those kids.

Just to clear up some things... He didn't lead the team in home runs as a 8th grader, and he wasn't a catcher either. He was a spot starter in left field and earned a starting role by the end of the season. His older brother lead the team in home runs his 8th grade year as a senior and the catcher that season was Nick Diamond. The rest is right on, the sky is the limit for this kid only time will tell what the future withholds.

Farris also has pretty good size for being a sophomore. I saw him play at Meinken field and hit one out opposite field (left center) over the 368' mark. That's pretty impressive IMO.

Didn't Curley of Beechwood quit football to concentrate on baseball? i think if Farris wants to be successful he is going to need to quit atleast one sport so he can take that season to concentrate on strength training and preparing for the other two sports.

Farris has decided to not play basketball next year. He said he wants to take the time between football and baseball to condition and be ready for baseball. When baseball tryouts start, he said he wants to be ready to hit the field and not play catchup after a long season of basketball.

:thumb: Farris definetly has a brighter future in football and baseball so it's good to see him making that decision. He isn't bad at basketball though. He's a great kid and I expect to hear nothing but good things about him in the future.
