Highlands alums who got picked up by the pros this year???

Featured Replies

I read that Highlands alumnus Rob Smith (from UT) was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns recently. Are there any other former Highlands football players who were picked up by pro teams this off-season?

I think Grover ate himself out of a a chance to play at the next level. I think he'll be fine though.......:D

I don't think Brent was interested in playing at the next level.

Either way I am sure it wont matter to him when he is pulling down six figs in a few years..... Just like Rob Smith..... a very bright kid who could have it either way....

What did Brent major in at Purdue?

Brent was definitely contacted by a couple of teams before the draft and told them he was not interested in playing in the NFL, at least according to Brent and his father, whom I know well and wholeheartedly believe. Brent had a couple of concussions over the years, which with the additional weight he was carrying and would be required to continue to carry, concerned him a lot about playing in the pro's.

I believe he was a double major at Purdue, with one major in some engineering discipline and the other in bio medicine ( I remember reading an article stating he's the first football player at Purdue to double major). He's a really, really smart kid. I know what he wants to do next but am not sure he wants it publicized, so its probably best I keep it to myself for now.

I saw him at Mike and Jimmy's back in January, and he wasn't as big as I thought he was. Coming out of high school, I never would've imagined he would become a big ten defensive tackle.

I saw and talked with him at Highlands spring practice and he looked to have lost lots of weight. At his step mom's birthday a couple of years ago, he brought some of his fellow linemen down from Purdue with him and I thought the house was going to tilt to the side they were standing. I made sure I went through the chow line before they did. They were huge. Brent realizes the weight was unhealthy and is taking it off pretty quickly it looks like to me.

I heard the other day that Gino Guidugli was asked to visit the Giants camp this weekend. Who knows we might have two Bluebird QB's on the same roster.........That would be fun!!

This is definitely something for which the HHS fans/players/students should be proud.:thumb: :thumb:
