Reds are giving Cueto a few extra days rest and he won't pitch until Friday against the Mets. Was scheduled for tonight.

He's got an 18-4 with a 2.13 ERA in his career against the Pirates, including 10-2 with a 1.91 ERA at PNC Park. I can see why they don't want him pitching against them. :lol2:

Seemed pretty funny to me. Sit him against a division rival, makes a ton of sense.

Give him a few days and pitch him Thursday at the least.

Cueto is coming off a 5 innings outing and had he pitched today would have already been on an extra day of rest. Add in his dominance against the Pirates and the importance of this series from a standings perspective if the Reds really see themselves as contenders and it makes zero sense to rest him. Maybe he is banged up, maybe the Reds have a trade pretty much wrapped up and the new team wants him to be available to pitch right away in the next couple days.

The Reds are also without the missle going into this series or at least that what CBS had reported but I haven't heard it from any other sources.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing Josh Smith pitch. He's certainly earned it and while he may not be considered a top prospect I think he has the potential makeup of a #5 starter. 8 of his last 9 starts have been quality. I know he isn't young but he's not exactly old either. He could've given up by now but he pitches for the love of the game.

For those that don't know his story. His 21st Round selection came with a $1000 signing bonus. He makes less than $10,000 a year in salary and builds pools and trains young pitchers in the offseason to make additional income. Many career minor leaguers have similar stories but I'm really pulling for him.

For whatever reason I feel like he's been a little overlooked, his numbers certainly don't lie.

Smith has been one of the better pitchers overall in every league he has pitched in.

After making 19 relief appearances in 2010 between Rookie and Class A ball, he became a full-time starter for the Class A Dayton Dragons in 2011, where he earned a Midwest League All-Star selection and finished the season 14-7. Smith led all Class A pitchers in wins and strikeouts (166) and posted a 2.97 ERA, which ranked among the top 15 pitchers at the level.

He spent 2012 in Class-A Advanced with the Bakersfield Blaze where he finished 9-8 with a 3.80 ERA. His 140 strikeouts were fourth in the California League.

A year later Smith moved to Class AA Pensacola where he led the Southern League in strikeouts (139) and was second with 11.

In 2014 Smith made 24 starts for Louisville and posted a 10-7 record. His 123 strikeouts were sixth in the International League.

Overall Smith has tossed 642 innings in the minors, has a record of 46-34 and a 3.62 ERA through 128 games. He has 611 career strikeouts.
